Heyman Thinks Hoagy, Bloomers and Maday would all clear waivers, and he even thinks we might get Gil through. I don't think we're out to waive Gil, but he is mentioned. Could we take a run at Dunn?

Won't everybody be "Placed on Waivers"

this month (save Greinke/Soria/Butler/Gordon).

Doesn’t August work like this…

Royals place player Gil Meche on waivers (for example). If nobody claims him, then he can be traded up until Aug. 31. If someone DOES claim him, the Royals then have the option of keeping him, or allowing the claiming team to take Gil meche & his contract…

Why take a run @ Dunn?

What would you want to give up for Dunn?

Dunn’s a great hitter.

He’s obviously much bertter suited for the AL, where he might still be an above average player assuming he takes to DHing okay. He’s probably overpaid for next year at $12M, and then he’d be gone… I guess the Royals could try to get WAS to take a chunk of his salary, then trade him after enjoying the homers and walks for the first half of the season. It would be fun, but with the Royals not contending until probably 2012, it doesn’t really fit.

He’d be good, but I’m not sure his game is ideally suited for the K, which is pretty much neutral overall, but depresses HR rates while increasing hit rates on balls in play — the opposite of Dunn’s TTO approach.

I wouldn't give up anything for Dunn

or anyone like him until I gave Kila 3-400 PAs to see what he can do.

I Wouldn't Want

To give up much of anything for Dunn under these circumstances, but he was everybody’s here’s favorite free agent last year. Hoagy for Dunn, however, would be perfect. I’s throw in Maday and Sporqie, too.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

Is there any way to regress Dunn's numbers to the Royals level of sucktitude?

Maybe something simple….like the following:

Dunn Royal HR = (3-Year Avg) * 0.55
Dunn Royal RBI = (3-Year Avg) * 0.45
Dunn Royal SO = (3-Year Avg) * 1.4
Dunn Royal OBP = (3-Year Avg) * An irrelevency coefficient (i)
Dunn Royal Salary = (True Worth) + 3,500,000

Just some rough numbers, but that may be helpful to define how someone like Dunn would actually perform in KC. I’m thinking a full season line of Dunn in KC would look like the following:

HR = 25
RBI = 90
BA = .215
OBP = .350
SLG = .475
OPS = .825
Salary = $15,500,000

Time to take for those on Royals Review to turn on him………..priceless.

And I still don’t want him.

15. Willy Taveras, Reds outfielder: But with .279 on-base percentage, who’d want him?

I know that is supposed to be a rhetorical question, but……..

From page 3 of that article (I think we found our #1 off-sason need)

• Two coveted free agents this winter could be Rockies GM Dan O’Dowd and Dodgers GM Ned Colletti. Colletti’s contract calls for a mutual option, meaning if he declines, he’s free. Both have done an excellent job this year.

Ned Colletti is Dayton Moore with a moustasche and snakeskin boots

Eric Hinske isn’t great, either, but he clearly is a better player than Mike Jacobs.

The Glass family makes the call

Does that answer your question?

Whatever they decide is most likely to be incorrect.

To turn this franchise around, I would recommend required viewing for the Glass regime of the Seinfeld episode where George did the opposite of his first inclination, with great results. There’s a lesson in there.

Mr Glass, this is a pro sports team, not a retail store - run it like one!

Sell the team to Mark Cuban!

He bugs the crap out of me personally, but he’d be good for the team he owned and for baseball as a whole.

Just stay the f— of of my TV, Mark, bring in smart guys, put in the money, and we’ll get along fine.

Rich people don't get rich by throwing their money around

And if they do throw their money around like some lottery winners, NFL/MLB draft bonus babies, etc., they usually end up poor again very quick. In his case though (if he has just $1B), he would have to give out $32 a second to get rid of his money, that’s $115,000 per hour.

by AxDxMx on Aug 4, 2009 9:27 PM EDT up reply actions

So multiply those numbers by 10

That’s $320 a second, $1,150,000 per hour over the course of a year to blow his money. That’s a serious chunk of change.

Maybe we should start writing letters again?

If we show him that doesn’t work, maybe he’ll actually buy the team to silence us.
