Keith Law Given The Rany Treatment From Royals
From Keith Law chat: "Someone I know well with KC told me after I wrote that the Royals shouldn't give Dayton an extension that we're not friends any more. The entire organization has gone mad - you are simply not allowed to criticize them."

If you've been friends with KLaw this long
Why would that put you over the edge? The dude seems rather abrasive all the time.

A couple of other interesting quotes:
The Hosmer promotion was yet another inexplicable KCR move of the last 12 months, so I’m not holding his stats against him. Of course, I don’t think the Hosmer promotion is even top five among inexplicable KCR moves with the Jacobs trade, the Yuni trade, playing Aviles when he was hurt, not overnighting Hosmer’s prescription glasses, and the Gutierrez trade.
and
I’m still trying to find out what exactly Gutierrez did to make KC sour on him; before the season, they were gushing over him as the sleeper guy in their system. Then they trade him for a defensive catcher and a 5th outfielder. I’d like to at least hear the explanation.

I wonder if Keith still thinks Callaspo is a "singles only hitter"
Law is a tool, and not because he isn’t in love with Royals players. He’s abrasive and not great at evaluating talent. That’s why he failed in his brief stint with a MLB team and now he’s on ESPN’s roster of great analysts.

I don't care enough about Keith Law to form an opinion either way about him
but Callaspo’s .138 ISO (isolated slugging) is nothing to write home about and puts him in the bottom quartile among AL regulars. He had a nice power surge earlier in the year, but it has disappeared in the second half.
He has good line drive power for a middle IFer
Which quartile is he in among middle IFers? Position is important.

He's 8th out of 10 among qualified AL 2B
Law would have been more accurate if he called Callaspo “a singles hitter with occasional gap power,” but this seems to be a pretty minor transgression.
I'm not a fan of Law
but it’s amazing that this kind of stuff is still happening after the Rany “Incident”

Is KC
going to start fair gaming their critics?
Jazayerli Order. Fair game. May be deprived of press passes or cut off from friends by any means by any Royals staffer without any discipline from the organziation. May be banned, sued or lied to or destroyed.

Dayton continues to amaze me in soooo many ways.
I have heard some rumors from pretty good sources and if 1/4th of them are true, the Royals are hosed for a long time.

This is where SBNation needs a private message feature.
I’d love to hear some of those stories

They aren't the best stories, but can explain what is going on -- "panic".
There are much bigger names that read here for info, but won’t write about rumors — they need the truth and real good story or they might get banned also from the Royals.

Regardless of what anybody may think of Law
I think the main point is that this organization has become EXTREMELY thin-skinned.
I’m not exagerating this. There are ushers I used to joke with about the team, etc. – now they simply smile and say nothing. They are ALL afraid to even think negative thoughts about the organization.
Frankly, this is a pretty weird stance by the Royals. Does Moore not realize how bad the last two decades have been? Does he not realize that criticism should be expected, and that even if it seems excessive or uninformed to him, it should at least be understandable until they actually demonstrate, WITH MAJOR LEAGUE SUCCESS, that things really are different? In other words, shouldn’t they be prepared to suffer the slings and arrows as just desserts for the two decades of neglect inflicted by the owner?
Mr Glass, this is a pro sports team, not a retail store - run it like one!
Did this happen after the two ushers get fired for criticizing Trey
within earshot of Mrs. Hillman alleged incident?

that were suspended for about a month and almost fired for criticizing the cover a game day program. ive been told that the new upper mgmt of the royals doesnt take shit from anybody
They only dispense it in the form of horrible, horrible baseball teams

No other comment other than, “That is freaking ridiculous.”
Experience tells me this behavior comes from insecure people who know their performance cannot be defended from criticism, so they instead attack the motives and character of their critics. And I have never known of an instance were more sucess follows this behavior. This mindset normally leads to dismissal, not improvement.
Dayton Moore and his inner circle are seeming to me more and more like Wayne Krivsky and his cabel in Cincinnati. Dayton should read up on how Krivsky’s tenure ended. It will give him something to think about.

Tidbit from Rany:
And while Law didn’t mention it in his chat, I’ve also learned that after publishing his criticism of Dayton Moore’s extension, Law received a phone call…from Dayton Moore.
This franchise clearly has its priorities straight

You're still allowed to be critical of the Royals
You just have to make sure to voice it in the designated Free Speech Zones.
The Royals welcome your dissent!
