Late Night Royals Links

Back from a fun weekend in Chicago/Milwaukee/Northern Indiana.

Justin Huber tweaked his back during batting practice tonight, and was moved out of the starting lineup. Sadness.

I really hope Rany being done is a phase...

Im not sure I can really get pumped for next season without his optimism.

Your late night Joel Peralta update:

He had nothing tonight against the Giants.

Coming on with 1 out in the bottom of the 8th, with the bases loaded and the Rockies already down by 5, he got Aaron Rowand to fly out to center deeply enough to score any runner from 3rd other than the one who was there, Bengie Molina. 2 down.

He then walked Fred Lewis on 4 pitches to force Molina home, one of the few sure ways to drive him in.

Velez then tripled on a 400+ foot drive to right center that would have been a grand slam in any park other than AT&T and Petco, clearing the bases.

Freddie Sanchez would then have walked on a 3-2 pitch if that was his style, but he fouled it off and then drove another 3-2 pitch into the gap in right center, where Hawpe caught up with it on the run.

So to obsessive followers of former Royals, this public service message: Huberism is OK, but once Peraltafaction sets in, you’ve got a problem.

I mean suck all year, then pull it around mid season...

and make a playoff run… Granted they lost this game, but still do they lead the league in 9th inning comebacks? And if you pitched a movie about last years run, no one would make it because its to much of a bullshit story to believe.

    one better

hopefully it doesn’t end up with him wasting away on a perennially crappy Royals team

joel peralta as still about half a run above replacement level

which would put him in the top third of current ROyals relievers

    Joel Peralta, Rockies' mop-up man

could be the Royals’ right-handed 7th-inning go-to guy. That’s probably all anyone needs to know about the Royals’ bullpen this year.
