Office Season Premiere Postgame Thread
What did you guys think?
The Office's New Girl Is "Totally Different" from Pam
TVGuide.com: You are known as the new Pam. Are we going to see any comparisons?
Kemper: It's totally different. ... I think that the personalities are just very different. Pam has evolved into this more confident, self-assured person. Erin dresses sort of frumpy, she's new and bright-eyed, so I'm interested to see how she develops from working in that environment.TVGuide.com: Both Dwight and Andy were vying for your affection last season. We hear you'll just be Andy's love interest this season.
Kemper: Yes. A love connection starts to develop between Andy and Erin. Andy initiates it and pursues it. In some of the stuff we've shot, we begin to see that play out, but it's certainly not fully formed yet.

Disappointing
It started out really weakly, had a few chuckles, then we had our aww moment with Jim and Pam. I thought they really could have done more with the interns. I did like Andy Bernard though – “All I want to know is…am I gay?”
Did anyone watch Community? I was really looking forward to it, but I had to turn it off halfway through because I found it so annoying and unfunny. It has all the elements to be a funny show – so why isn’t it funny?

my wife vehemently hates McHale
i am also just weirdly against community, i’d rather laugh at the powerful than the powerless, though maybe the show has a better vibe than that
I was really disappointed
How lame they made community college look. Cheap pot shots. They have enough comedic talent there to be better than that.

It was uneven but showed enough to garner a season pass
The ending was strong, suggesting that it will be more than just the snarky guy from the Soup making fun of the less fortunate.
The show and the jokes moved very quickly, so you really had to pay attention. I get the vibe that the characters will drive the jokes more than the community college setting. The Office initially made Scranton a frequent punchline, but rarely goes there now (and even then, tries to avoid mean-spiritedness).
I'm teaching at a community college this year
(Johnson County CC), and I had been looking forward to the show (partly because my dad kept asking me whether I was going to watch it). I enjoyed Community. Yeah, it was hit and miss, but I have hopes for it. I think for a premiere/pilot, it was kind of weird, especially with all the John Hughes references (unfortunately, however, none were from Home Alone or Home Alone 2).
Maybe Chevy Chase can make an Alec Baldwin-like impression on the show.
i really could have used an hour long episode...
the false rumors thing was actually a decent premise i thought… would have liekd to have seen more…

Does Parks and Rec still suck?
I didn’t even tune in to find out. Sometimes shows pick it up the second season I suppose.

I'm guessing the short debut last year
Was so they could retool the show to fit what people wanted. I don’t have high hopes for it, and I love Amy Poehler.
Surprisingly, Parks and Rec was the funniest show of that block last night
The retooling over the summer worked for the most part. The Amy Poehler character was substantially toned down and made smarter, less annoying, and more relatable. While still somewhat clueless, she is no longer Michael Scott-level hapless. The episode also moved away from basing the humor on excruciating awkwardness (like the Office at its cruelest) to a more accessible approach of “here’s a clever take on a funny situation.” The premise of the gay penguin marriage was inspired, and its execution was solid, especially the intern-boyfriend-his boyfriend bit. It was not great by any means, but it started to find its footing and, more importantly, was funny.

Good to hear
I recorded it but haven’t watched it yet.

I just hope I did not raise expectations too much
It was a pleasant surprise, but by no means the next Office, 30 Rock, or Arrested Development.
Don't worry, you didn't
It felt like an Office copy last year, and wouldn’t survive like that. Glad to hear there have been some changes.
Erin the new receptionist
while the Seattle PI piece was interesting on her, I think most guys would find her more interesting here:

pretty funny, but it wasn’t until reading the comments I realized it was her.
