Yet another column defending Greinke as the Cy Young, this time from Jeff Passan. I don't see how he can't get it.

I don't get it

The thesis of his article is: Zack Greinke will not win the Cy Young award, even though he should. Yet, at the end of his article they have Cy Young “predictions” from 4 Yahoo writers, including himself, in which ALL 4 say Zack will finish first.

Those are their personal picks, not their predictions

I honestly think Zack has received such an overwhelming amount of positive press that the BBWAA can’t ignore it. No one else has received this kind of media campaign, where pretty much every nationally syndicated columnist with an opinion on the matter has said Greinke should win it, they just don’t know if he will. If he wins the next two and gets to 16, it’s his for certain. The last game probably won’t be a factor, since many writers submit their votes during the final week instead of waiting for the last weekend of games to be played.

No, those are their predictions

Which I deduce from the header over them, which says “AL Cy Young Predictions”

This space for rent.

I was surprised on SC last night

Even the dunce Steve Phillips said Zack will deserve it.

I agree

that being bypassed for one of these awards doesn’t degrade him or his performance in any way.

However, winning it matters, whether you glorify it or not. It gives the winner leverage in various situations

and it gives the team an additional marketing hook.

So, to misquote Paul McCartney: Shut up, it’s the bloody Cy Young Award.

This is how much I trust the Royals

Greinke will win the Cy Young and they will name someone else pitcher of the year.
