Game 149 Open Thread - Royals (60-88) at White Sox (73-76)

Kansas City Royals at Chicago White Sox, Sep 20, 2009 2:05 PM EDT

How could anyone be interested in the NFL with this game on?

Robinson Tejeda looks to continue his stretch of awesomeness, while Freddy Garcia has his own goal: picking up a few more paychecks and reminding us all he's still alive.

I thought it couldn't get any worse than Zack's Thursday lineup, but I was wrong
  • Callaspo at 3rd so that puts Hernandez and Yuneifi at the middle infield slots
  • And there’s that magical Anderson-Maier-Spork outfield, with Spork batting leadoff
  • No Brayan yet again. Is he hurt? He played that one game as a defensive sub last week and that was it

by sterlingice on Sep 20, 2009 1:24 PM EDT up reply actions

And here I was worried we wouldn’t give Mike Jacobs enough of a chance to come around and start hitting singles to left again.

Sporqie Bloomers, Leadoff

In perpetuity, RF when Hoagy DH’s. The die is cast. BPJ obviously needs more time on the bench before he’s ready to start. At least we have 2 legitimate MLB hitters in the lineup. Small victories.

How could anyone be interested in the NFL with this game on?

Easy: if you believe (like me) that the NFL doesn’t start until January, all you need is an interest in historically bad baseball lineups, and you’re good.

Our guys keep them off the scoreboard by pulling the ball back over the wall.

Meanwhile, they keep us off the scoreboard by tossing a has-been out to the mound.

Soria Should Come

In and pitch underhanded.

more range than Yuniesky Betancourt put together.

True but..

a .175 average isn’t getting it done.

Go Royals!

2010 Rotation: Greinke, Meche, Tejeda, Hochevar, Bannister

Davies in long relief. Potentially pretty cool, not a Ponson/HoRam/Tomko in the bunch!

by andrewmiller on Sep 20, 2009 4:21 PM EDT reply actions

Nah

We’re hurting with Yabuta in the Forgotten Long Reliever role. Much better to slot Tejada in there, and if Minaya doesn’t overpay for Garcia, maybe we can swoop in and nab him.

Just thought I'd pop in here and say,

Robinson Tejeda is my hero.

- W. Bloomquist homered to deep center
- P. Earth explodes

by JobDDT on Sep 20, 2009 4:27 PM EDT reply actions

Agreed, he's awesome.

Related note: Tejeda gets some crap about his control, but he has the third best BB/K rate on the team, after only Greinke and Soria.

Oops, fourth

Hochevar’s is pretty damn good.

Royals winning now is a matter of addition by substitution.

It’s amazing what happens when you replace Chen/Ponson with Tejeda and Guillen’s outfield defense with Maier’s.

The process always works. It moves around us and through us and binds the organization together. Sadly, some of us are able only to perceive its workings through the lens of wins and losses. Their loss, really.

Well, to keep the Star Wars theme going

“The Process is what gives a Royal his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together. "
