Disco gets defensive
All of this thinking outside the box and employment of foreign statistics is going to get him into trouble. I bet LaRussa is drooling to pick Disco's brain.
Not sure if any of the scenarios would be worth doing, but it's good to think about different possibilities.

Another suggestion for Disco
start striking guys out

suggestion for low-morale comment posters
think outside the box
he’s going to try to make his living with a reduced BB rate and a low BABIP, so I think he deserves some leeway when suggesting ideas that don’t conform with those of traditional baseball (odd defensive alignments) or with the modern bedrocks of SABRmetrics (not relying on a high K rate).
(sorry for the snipe, and if your comment was supposed to be sarcastic or tongue-in-cheek, then consider mine to be equally so.)

I hope he gets a chance, it would b a a lot of fun.
but I do find it curious that a 26 year-old dude (described by Gopherballs as having potential to be a right-handed Horacio Ramirez) who’s got a AAA average tRA gets so much love. That ignores BABIP and takes into account batted ball types — so it should helpa good groundball pitcher.
But weirdly, those sort of numbers are ignored by his sabermetric fans. It’s like he’s the sabermetric WIllie Bloomquist.

But I think the reason they are ignored is because we wonder if the rules apply to this guy
He’s very different from what is normal. His funky arm angle, pitch speeds, etc. I don’t think there is any substitute here for actual trial runs of playing time, since we have so few comparisons. There’s just not enough of these guys in MLB because they’ve never been given a chance. If you don’t throw 90 (or have potential to), you probably won’t be drafted. I mean, I don’t think he’s going to be the next Quiz, but he’s something different being tried, and I thought that’s what saber guys are supposed to like?

It seems like the argument is that "different from what is normal" qualifies one for
automatic disqualification, not only by traditional standards (the 90-mph thing) and more-and-more by sabrmetric standards, i.e. if you can’t get strikeouts then you can’t succeed. Maybe I’m mis-characterizing the sabrmetric argument against him, but two problems stand out: one is that (like AxDxMx said) he doesn’t fit the mold for sabrmetric comparisons, and the other is that there are always exceptions to the rule, even sabrmetric rules.
I would say I’m a fan of Hayes, but if course I’m skeptical, (just like I//we was/am//were/are for Bloomquist).

It's not all about strikeouts
Look, he might work out, don’t get me wrong. But read what I said about tRA. Yes, he gets grounders, but but enough to make his run expectancy much better than average in AAA. And regressed (tRA*), it’s 4.60 in AAA … which is about what Horacio Ramirez did out of the ’pen for the Royals this season. Again, tRA gets past BABIP issues.

Prediction # 1
He might not make it as a big league pitcher, but I definitely see a future as a coach or manager.

Prediction # 2
Said future won’t be with the ass-backwards organization known as the Royals. They simply don’t believe in embracing ANY new ideas.
