"I love these guys,’’ Ramirez said. "It’s been great to be in Boston. I’m enjoying it. It’s been a good time. This is a great team.’’
The Sox so far have won the trade with the Royals in a landslide. Not only did they acquire Ramirez, the rock of their middle relief all season, but they also made space for Jacoby Ellsbury to blossom as a full-time center fielder. Crisp, meanwhile, was batting .228 with 16 extra-base hits on June 12, when right shoulder surgery ended his season.

There should be...
…rule for baseball trades to the effect that injuries can’t make you “win” a trade. I mean, if Crisp had been healthy all year and performed reasonably well, and Ramirez somehow got injured, I still wouldn’t declare us the winner. At best it’s a classic “incomplete.” It’s not like Crisp is looking at being out of baseball permanently. And relievers are notorious for having up and down years statistically (excepting guys like Rivera, etc.). – TL

maybe it's somewhat unfair to evaluate players true talent based on injuries
but from the team perspective (i.e., “winning a trade”), it’s quite relevant.
Ramirez actually hasn’t been that great this season… but Crisp won’t be aroudn the Royals next season, and Ramirez is just entering arbitration, and so on.

except that Crisp's injury risk is what made him available

This line will most likely be on Crisp's MLB obituary:
if Crisp had been healthy all year and performed reasonably well
I used to work with an old man that told me. Son, every workplace has a dumbass, if you don't have one where you work, then I'm afraid you're it.

"if Crisp had been healthy all year"
A pretty big “if”, though right? I mean, the Royals would have won the David Cone trade if Ed Hearn had never been hurt and become a three time All-Star and David Cone blew out his shoulder in 1986. But that didn’t happen.

but that one time he won you a free taco
which you never got because the line to get the free taco was ninety minutes long and after ten minutes you realized that you really do not mind paying 89 cents for a taco as long as the wait is under two minutes and decided to come back tomorrow.

But he steals bases, man!
A CF who steals bases! That’s like the most important thing a CF does! And he does it! So he’s really blossomed as a CF! Because he steals bases!

it's funny
if you look at the players that the sox have brought in via trade, and then to put those players on the royals and I wonder what our record would be.
