Milton Bradley to Royals? Musings.
I know this topic has been discussed here before, but the link above presents a potential swap from the Cubs perspective. I'm no Paul Sullivan fan (article's author), but I do see some sense in this. Bradley's a multi-dimensional player who could help KC. I'm sure this will strike some as a Guillen-esque deal. Bradley's way more talented than Guillen. Bradley has a greater career OBP, hits for a higher average, and plays above average defense in right. He might even be less hot-headed than Guillen, believe it or not. ...So long as Bradley avoids our radio and tv announcers, everything could go smoothly. ;) My concern is this: Who do we give up? - TL

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease no
very similar to Guillen, a player on the decline in his career, not worth it and our org. has to stop making moves like this unless they are just compliments to other good players, which we really only have one of right now, please no

Nope.
I couldn’t disagree more. The only similarity is their occasional outbursts—-sometime anti-social behavior. Other than that, Bradley and Guillen are in no way similar. Bradley has tools and skills. His OBP alone would be an argument to bring him here. – TL

Depends on how much time Bradley has left on his contract
a Guillen for Bradley swap makes a little sense if the remaining contracts are relatively even. Bradley is a better overall player and who wouldn’t admit to waiting for his first public meltdown if he ended up here. I wouldn’t give up anybody else to get him but those two guys even up might do it.

I think
Bradley has 2 years, $20M left
Guillen 1 year, $12M
give or take
BOOM! ROASTED!

I think it's actually more like $23
typical backloaded stuff
A bit steep for a guy who’s probably about a league average player at this point (once you take into account he probably won’t pay more than 75% of games). It’s too bad his defense has taken a dive. Injuries stuck.
very good hitter, though.

Bradley plays above average defense?
I don’t know what the numbers say, and I’m willing to admit I may be wrong, but I thought he had the rep of being one of the worst defensive outfielders in baseball – in Guillen territory.

He was actually a good defensive CF in CLE
and was very good in the corners according to UZR and the Fans in Oakland and San Diego. But I think age and knee injuries have sapped his range. I did some work on it earlie rtoday. He’s probably a bit below average.at this point.
The main reason to DH him is to keep him healthy. He’s always been vastly superior to Guillen.

although JoePo didn't like his body language, so that's probably -5 right there
maybe his defense would improve if he started talking about BABIP and Bill James’ baserunning stat

I wouldn't have a problem with this if we trade Guillen in the deal.
I’m not at all familiar with the Cubs or their farm system, but I think I read a post on here from someone suggesting we could trade Guillen, Meche, and Teahen for Bradley and some other player from the Cubs. That trade would free up some salary space, and its not like any of the players involved would really be here when the Royals could be serious contenders. Also, I think Bradley’s attitude problems are probably overblown somewhat because they make good stories for the media.

I'm sure Pinella and Hendry have some other young, potentially decent players they're mad at

he's my current mancrush, sort of
I guess they didn’t need him, being set with Soriano and everything.

Pie's problem with the Cubs was...
…the same that other players have had: the spotlight. Pie was given a pretty fair opportunity, but the Cubs were looking for better OBP. And then Pie started striking out a lot. They feared he was becoming a Rich Hill at the plate—-an extreme example, I know, but you get the point. I personally felt they should’ve kept Pie one more season. Just let him sink or swim with 500+ plate appearances. They problem with the Cubs is that they can’t do that with anybody who doesn’t at least obtain to average (e.g. Ryan Theriot, Geovany Soto). – TL

Less than 300 PAs over three seasons is not a fair opportunity for a young guy like Pie
and they burned his options and thus felt forced to basically give him away.. and whaddya know, he’s turned out to be a decent player so far this season in BAL, where’s he’s had just about as many PA in one season as he did in parts of three with the Cubs.
It’s just a mystery to me what the Cubs don’t win more…

NO WAY.
He wanted to go to Chicago and he was wanted there…. look what happened. What’s going to happen when he goes to a team he doesn’t want to go too?
And don’t forget that he has admitted sitting out games to keep his stats up so that he gets more money…

He would
be a big problem in the clubhouse and team chemistry. If we acquire this bum, I am cutting my losses with this club.
