Around SBN: SB Nation interviews Jerome Bettis

Watch what they do, not what they say, but still this is at least mildly encouraging.

Is it just me

Or would anyone else rather have Greinke as GM rather than Dayton?

I refuse to set up a signature....DAMMIT

Bannister

We know he pays attention to the stats at least. I’m betting he wouldn’t have traded for Yuni or Jacobs.

Predictions for 2009

1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
6. The Chiefs will go 7-9 in 2009, good for 2nd in the AFC West. Revision: We go 5-11 and finish behind Oakland.
7. Ryan Succop will not perform better in 2009 than Connor Barth did in 2008.
8. The Chiefs will have a bottom 10 defense this year.
9. RB will be a problem area this season on offense.

I'd love to know what Banny thought privately

When he found out that Yuni is about to be playing SS behind him very five days for 3 years.

Its also nice to see that GMDM admits some mistakes were made...

To bad his idea of mistake is most likely not the Yuni trade.

Or Acquiring Mike Jacobs

Seriously…how hard is it to realize that a guy with a sub-.300 OBP in 2008 and a .317 OBP in 2007 is probably a poor bet to get on base at an acceptable rate in 2009? Pretty much any teenager in America who’s ever read anything by Bill James could have figured that one out.

I had some hope for Moore initially and he’s shown a decent record at evaluating young pitchers, but he’s an idiot when it comes to evaluating hitters, which should be the easiest part of his job when it comes to major leaguers. The stats are available via a quick Google search after all. Plus, it’s not like Jacobs is straight out of high school…he’s been around long enough for anyone to see he stinks.

And how does a 1B with a .301 OBP and .714 OPS even get 419 at-bats in a season anyway? Seriously. Is the manager incapable of seeing that his 28 year old first baseman can’t freaking hit?

His defense makes up for it.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

His mistake was not locking up Bloomquist for more than 2 years

And not signing Yuni to an extension of 3/$36 tacked on to the end of his deal.

I noticed it wasn't a direct quote...

plausible deniability. “It’s a lie, I never said I made several mistakes.”
