The Royals dropped both ends of a doubleheader
the first time I paid attention to them. Excellent.
The only things I remember about that day are that Phil Rizzuto talked about how “surprising” the Royals were that year, and some combination of the Yankees broadcasters discussed the suspension of Alex Johnson, which was still under appeal at the time.
Of course my memory might be entirely fried and some other broadcast was my enticement to become a Royals fan — but it doesn’t look like it.

I was at one of the final games in Old Yankee Stadium
The one where Brian Bannister was staked to a 4-0 lead, gave it up within an inning, and it was 10-4 by the end of the second.
I did get a chance to move down to the championship-level seats on the third-base side thanks to a very generous family friend. As Ross Gload was coming off the field with the ball after an inning, I got up and shouted his name. He was about to toss the ball to some kids in front, but when he saw my Mark Teahen jersey he changed his mind and threw it to me!
Stupid kids, that’ll teach you to be Yankees fans.

Did you yell
“Gload will explode”?

I was at that game as well.
My dad and I made a trip to New York for the sole purpose of seeing a game at Yankee Stadium before they tore it down. Say what you will about the Yankees, but that was an awesome place to watch a baseball game. I’ve been to about ten stadiums, and old Yankee Stadium and Wrigley are just different than anywhere else I’ve been. (Given there’s still around 20 I haven’t been to yet).

Different in the way that it reeks of urine?
I’ve heard that the place was a serious craphole. Seats have weird angles and some have obstructed views. The history there is undeniable, but the place itself wasn’t so great.

I didn't have any real problem with it
It just got too expensive for me after a while.

I thought it was alright
I too went because I had never seen the stadium.
Better than Wrigley for actually watching the game (I hate those seats underneath the upper deck), although mostly because of the atmosphere. The stadium itself was nothing special, but not awful.
My friend that I went with was wearing his Sox jersey (he came down from Boston) so we took a tour of the upper deck to see what kind of catcalls we’d get, which was fun. Nothing super memorable though. Yankees fans were not threatened by me whatsoever which was to be expected.
