Twins Call Up Justin Huber
Another callup is on his way: Justin Huber should be ready to play by Tuesday when the Twins head to Canada to take on the Blue Jays. We'll meet him later, but here are the essentials: he's 27 (in his age-26 season) hitting .271/.350/.483 in 435 at-bats for the Red Wings this season, with 22 homers, 22 doubles, 84 strikeouts and 48 walks.
I'm happy for him. I doubt he'll play much, and he probably has no future with the Twins, but at least he'll get a few weeks of Major League per diems, nice hotels, etc.
As devil_fingers mentioned earlier, it's actually kinda surprising that Huber is just 27. He's been dismissed largely as if he's a 33 year old.

Actually
While HUber is 27 in “real birthdays,” many baseball info sites (as well as Tango) use July 1 as their “cutoff.” To be “27” according to baseball-reference, Huber would have to have turned 27 before July 1 this season.
Justin Huber’s birthday?
July 1.
He’s. Just. That. Good.

Pinch-Runner
At least from his previous September call-ups we know that he is a skilled pinch-runner. Maybe that’s why the Twins promoted him

as I wrote in today's game thread
Detroit had better just concede right now!!!

Sigh
Another OF’r we could have called up.

To be fair
Watching Huber play OF would make you wish for Guillen’s range and ability to read the ball.
If you look closely, it really says "CentralChamps2012."

I think its fair to say he would have been Jacobs' equal at DH
at a minimum (and for league minimum!)
I guarantee he's older than 27
I mean, he’s from an island nation full of convicts, so his passport is almost certainly falsified.
I have never understood
Why Huber wasn’t given more of a chance here.
Perhaps Glass the Groundhog is subconsciously prejudiced against Aussies..
Is it safe?
if there's one kind of player that won't make it with Dayton Moore's Royals
it’s a guy who sucks at defense

Interesting
That the Twins own Justin Huber – Garrett Jones – has absolutely torn the cover off the ball for Pittsburgh this year and could be a dark horse ROY candidate.

too be
too be fair, there was no room for Jones. The Twins have 4 OF’s already (Cuddyer, Span, Gomez, Delmon Young. Also Jason Kubel has been seeing time in the OF this year because he bat has been pretty much awesome)
no room at a backup 1B position because..well..Justin Morneau plays every game, and Cuddyer has been the primary backup this year, and with Brenden Harris and Brian Buscher also seeing time there.
every Sunday the GM Billy SMith has a radio show and was asked about Huber. He was saying how he liked him and wants him back next year

I wonder who's a more horrible outfielder
him or Delmon Young.
That would be an awesome TV show. “Delmon YOung versus.” It’s all about fielding. Bringin Adam Dunn, Manny Ramirez, Jose Guillen.
I’d watch.

HA!
that would be awesome. Delmon seemed to have been playing better in the field this year, but he would lose a lot of ball in the Metrodome lights. And his range in limited. But compared to last year, he is a Gold Glover.
But he has only played something like 70 games in the OF this year

so maybe he'd field better with the lights off
I can’t wait for Dayton to trade Gordon for Delmon. But hey, at least we’d have gotten rid of a “bust.”

At least Delmon doesn't smirk!
I want my players to be so upset after every at bat that they burst into rage!

Most prospects fail before hitting age 27
Huber is part of that large group.
