Can he play short?
If so, I’ll take him now.
Does he have no pitch recognition skills?
If so, then Dayton will take him now.
I am more in the mindset of convincing Moore to trade for the light hitting, no defense Tom Tango.
Jeff Zimmerman - Protecting the world from RBI's and Wins from my mom's guest house.
well, he's a former brave and former mariner
it is an inevitability. so, i’ll say 2012 if Moore still has a job
Does this open the door for us to acquire Branyan?
Seeing how he was hurt, we could probably get him on the cheap. It’d be a bit of a gamble, but probably worth it.
actually, Bill Hall looks to be more of Royals type of player
toolsy – check
hit a lot of HR’s several years ago but nothing since – check
"Things could always be worse." - Buddy Bell
We'll give him to you
For Grienke. Don’t know much about GMDM, but that sounds like his kind of move.
Never Happen
Sure, the lure of the dual Brave-Mariner pedigree is strong, but I mean, have you looked at his defense numbers? Kotchman is too much like Doug Mientkiewicz (the antithesis of a Dayton Moore player) and not bad enough of a hitter to fall into the Gload zone.
Buddyball, however, is right on — Bill Hall will wear Royals blue soon.
That is a consideration
I still think that SEA was too scared off by Branyan’s injury history — heck, they should STILL sign him and have him DH when Bradley isn’t.
I was going to blog about this at some point: — yes, having Bradley and Branyan both on the roster is a lot of riskbut that’s why you carry near-average characters like Langerhans and Hannahan on your bench (move Lopez to 1B if Branyan gets hurt, use a combinatio of Figgins/ Hannahan at 2B/3B - hannahan is at least as good as Figgins defensively - he’s in the Crede zone).
Good thing they have Griffey around!
BIll Hall is the perfect blackRH/ white RH platoon partner for Bloomquist, I take it you’re on board with that comparison now?

Ebony and Ivory, Living in Perfect Harmony
I still kind of like Hall as a 25th player on a team with lots of left-handed hitters, which kind of fit Seattle but not Boston.
Without Griffey, Bradley and Branyan and Kotchman would have made sense. Now, I bet they seek out a right-handed 1B/OF type. Kearns would have fit, but with him off the board, I guess Xavier Nady makes sense if nobody else is willing to give him over $5 million, or maybe Robb Quinlan if he only plays once per week against lefties. Too bad Matt Murton already went to Japan.
The Braves apparently signed Eric Hinske, so the good news is that he will eventually join the Royals, but the bad news is that the Royals will be his last major league team before he involuntarily retires.
On the plus side, Branyan is now available
I wonder whether he or Adam LaRoche will jump on Moore’s 3/30 offer first

By the way
I’ve got a post coming later today on Kearns/Duncan to the Indians on minor-league deals. I’ve been doing preliminary power-rankings for the AL Central, and before this, they were close to the top with MIN. Surprising. I have less faith in their pitching than CHONE, I guess, but still… Kearns and Duncan are 1-1.5 WAR players — not good, but better t han their other LF options (Brantly, Crowe).
Should be an interesting season.
If MIN could have restrained themselves from the idiotic Garza/Bartlett for Young-and-change trade, they’d be one of the best teams int he AL.

Cleveland
Shapiro is borrowing NYRoyal’s suggestion of pairing a heavy groundball pitching staff with good infield defense (well, at least decent infield defense). I really like Justin Masterson — he misses some bats and gets tons of groundballs. A modest improvement in his walk rate would make him a number two starter type.
