A quickly look at my top 10 for next year:

Is Bubba Starling the one from Gardner-Edgerton?
I know he’s a talented football player, too. Any idea if he’s going football or baseball? Is he really a top 6 talent? I know he’s really good, I’d just be impressed if people already think that highly of him.
Yes, he's from Gardner.
Committed to Nebraska for football but a lot of people think that first round money will get him signed. I don’t know enough to say whether he’s that good but he is the best HS player I’ve ever seen live.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball...Rock Chalk Talk
interesting that law would put him on the mound....
saying he was throwing only 88-91 as a righty…..everything ive read talks up his 5 tool ability

Law is a huge fan has Starling
He has Bubba as his #1 prep for 2011 and said he should be in the conversation for Pittsburgh at #1.
That Norris kid is REALLY good also.
I think we go HS top available next year. I think they are starting “The Second Wave®”.
starling would be a great place to start

This guy at a local restaurant was telling me about Starling the other night
He claimed Starling had thrown out a guy at home from the warning track. If true, that’s impressive. I think I need to make it out to a G-E game this spring.

Everything I'm reading has these 3 in their top 10...
Jack Armstrong
Ht/Wt: 6-6/225 lbs
Position: RHP
School: Vanderbilt
Dylan Bundy
Ht/Wt: 6-1/200 lbs
Position: RHP
School: Owasso HS (OK)
Jackie Bradley Jr
Ht/Wt: 5-10/175 lbs
Position: OF
School: South Carolina
I haven’t seen anything on Buba Starling being top 10… I’m sure Bubba will move up during the spring season though bc he is getting a lot of ink…

Also, I've read that Bubba projects as more of a RF than CF...

He's already 6'5" 200
at 17 years old. I’d have to imagine that he will gain another 20-30 pounds over the next 5-10 years. On the surface that seems too big to play CF, but maybe I’m wrong. How big is Hamilton?
I think at the least he could be a plus defender in RF with a cannon arm.
I would take Jason Heyward at pick #5
(which the Royals could have done a few years ago)
Are you saying Starling is the next...
Jason Heyward? Starling is reportivably still very raw. Also several teams passed on Heyward bc he said he wouldn’t sign or would only sign w/ Atlanta bc he was from Georgia..don’t remember the specifics of his draft demands, but Heyward handcuffed many teams from drafting them…the Royals had no shot @ Heyward…he had a college scholarship to a big school

6'5" 200 sounds like high school Heyward
and the way I understood it, teams didnt take Heyward because they didn’t get a good chance to scout him his senior year. Opposing pitchers threw around him and he walked alot. The Braves had been scouting him for years, and therefore didnt need to see too much his senior year.
Here’s a Yahoo story that says differently:
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-heyward032810
He only signed for $1.7Mil, which was 100-200K over slot.
This is true
None of the usual talent prognosticators (BA, BP, Law, PG) were calling Heyward the next superstar. He was definitely a top 15 talent, but scouts said he was raw and some weren’t sure he could stick at 1B. Basically he was your average talented HS player, and Atlanta was just lucky enough to win on their lottery ticket.
There was a story in SI at the beginning of the season on Heyward
Found the link LINK — Pages 4 & 5 have most of the details.
The Braves sandbagged other teams on Heyward, and most teams don’t scout the East Cobb summer keague where he played very well, if at all.
Unless I'm wrong...
Absolutely fascinating...
Considering DM history w/ the Braves he had to know the Braves had been doing this & was familar w/ Heyward bc they were following him for so long. I can’t believe the Royals didn’t know Heyward better.
Also one scout said:
“We just didn’t see him swing the bat enough to feel comfortable taking him that high,” says one Indians official. “When we saw him, he walked a lot.”
Isn’t that a good thing???
I would like to read a report from Will questioning these things considering it was DM 1st draft he had to know Heyward better & are the Royals doing something like this here locally, giving “equipment/$” to local traveling teams & asking them to stay away from showcase tournys….

The story supports what I had read before & said...
earlier. " Teams thought they were handcuffed by demands". This story says that it was a smoak screen believed to be pushed by the Braves but it affected his dropping & also teams thought he was going to Ivy League bc of parents.
But it also alludes the scouts “sucked” which is hard to take at face value bc they only quoted & interviewed Braves ppl. You never got any other teams’ ppl confirming the writers opinons that other teams overlooked Heyward.
Starling & Heyward have a similar frame & are/were both HS, but I’ll wait see… He is very intriging…

deezle nailed it...
That was @ that show case not every top HS prospect or any College Prospects were there. Starling is projected to be a power hitter w/ a RFers arm. Starling is still pretty raw. Eibner is about the same size w/ really good speed & played CF @ Arkansas, but probably will shift to RF as well down the line.
How many Hamilton’s are there & also Hamilton shifted over to LF to limit his injuries & make room for a faster Borbon.

I’m trying to figure out the 2011 MLB draft order.
Does anyone know how tiebreakers are determined for drafting position w/ teams that finished w/ the same record??
ie…cleveland & washington both finished 69-93 so which one would draft 6th & 7th…
by PREGNANT ROLLERSKATE on Oct 4, 2010 7:18 PM EDT reply actions
Wash drafts ahead of Clev
the tiebreaker is worst record from previous year.
really, that is...
a crappy tiebreaker…
I like heads up record better…
