"In 2011 Spring Training, we will have the most young players, homegrown players in any spring training camp in baseball. I can't validate that today because the numbers haven't come out but instinctively I can tell you that we have the most homegrown players of anybody in baseball and that's exciting to us. We'll have 2 to 4 players from our minor league team competing for a spot on the 25 man roster and we need to be able to do that every year, and we need to be able to do that certainly for the next 1 to 5 years for this wave of talent to blend together as we move forward" "In July of 2008, I had conversations with Zack Greinke about the status of this baseball team and this organization and how he fits into it. And certainly Zack wants to win. And in that same year in September, we won 18 games. Mike Aviles was coming off a great year, we were 52-50 with him in the lineup. Alex Gordon looked like he was gonna have a breakout year. Joakim Soria was doing great. Zack Greinke and Gil Meche finished, I wanna say 6th or 8th in strikeouts in the American League, one won 14 games, one won 13 games. We traded for Mike Jacobs. We traded for Coco Crisp. I was 95 percent sure that Zack Greinke had no business-- no desire to be here longterm and all of a sudden, he said he wanted to be here longterm after those series of events" "I don't try to convince anybody of what we do, I'm not a salesperson. I try to talk about who we are, and where we are, and players have to make up their own mind whether it's coming here or signing here long term." On a Greinke trade: "It just depends on what the club has in their system that matches up with what we need" "At this time last year, we didn't have one shortstop prospect in our minor league system. We have six right now that we feel really good about." "When we signed Octavio Dotel, the only reason we gave him five million dollars at the time was because we were gonna move him in June or July. And that's why we did it. And we were able to do it. You're not always successful, we've made our share of mistakes. But as we say all along, if we're not making mistakes, we're probably not being aggressive enough at times." "We signed Zack Greinke to a longterm contract. We signed Joakim Soria to a longterm contract. But by the way, saved this organization a lot of money which gave us an opportunity to probably keep David DeJesus another year than we probably would have in the past" "Our fans are gonna love Jeff Francoeur, given the opportunity and the time, he'll be one of the very good leaders that our community has ever seen out there in the public. That's the type of person that he is." "I think we'll have a few pitchers in camp who will compete for a spot in the rotation. You'll have to look at Daniel Duffy and say that he is someone that could do that. Everett Teaford. Aaron Crow is somebody that could come very quickly."

A selection from the Francoeur press conference Not sure what's more eyebrow raising, the mistakes quote, the claim that Aaron Crow could make the rotation out of spring training in 2011, finding 6 potential Shortstop prospects in a year (I counted 5), or the whole "most homegrown" thing (I count 18 homegrown guys on the 40 man, with maybe 9 of them on the 25 man roster) I await Francoeur running for Mayor of Kansas City
