DMIT - Round 2, part 1

Bracket2_medium
Let's take a break from the Greinke furor and get back to some good clean Dayton-bashing as a family.  Round 1 had some shocking upsets and lots of excitement.  I think a pattern is developing.  If a player was good for any period of time,  his acquisition doesn't look so bad, no matter how long his contract was, or how much money was wasted on him.  Conversely if a player was very bad, but for only a very short period of time and then he was gone, it doesn't matter how little he was paid.  Oh well, it's your tournament and your votes, so let's get back to it.  We'll do half of Round 2 today, from the East and Midwest regions.

Star-divide

#1 Guillen signed to a three-year contract vs. #9 Brian Anderson signed to a one-year contract

#5 Sidney Ponson signed to a one-year contract vs. #4 Scott Podsednik signed to a one-year contract

#6 Alex Gordon demoted to the minors and converted to an OFer vs. #3 Willie Bloomquist signed to a two-year contract

#10 Ryan Freel is acquired by trade vs. #15 John Thomson is signed to a one-year contract

#1 David DeJesus is traded for Vin Mazzaro and Justin Marks vs. # 8 Danny Gutierrez is traded for Manny Pina and Tim Smith

#12 Luis Mendoza acquired by trade for a PTBNL vs. #4 Rick Ankiel signs a one-year contract

#6 John Buck is non-tendered vs. #3 Horacio Ramirez signed to a one-year contract (second signing)

#10 Jason Smith signed to a one-year contract vs. #2 Kyle Farnsworth signed to a two-year contract

I actually liked Willie, and grew weary of Gordon's weak bat and errors while playing 3rd.

I don’t see him getting any better by playing the outfield. I think we should trade the kid. He just hasn’t lived up to the hype and he’s had plenty of time now. Time for him to go.

My vote is for both of these guys. Senseless moves. Both of them.

All time dumbest move ever. Giving away our best and most consistent player over the last

5 years, and getting essentially nothing in return. We have dozens of Vin Mazarros and Justin Marks we could bring up any time. This is the cheapest crap they’ve ever pulled on the fans.

Chicken shit is chicken shit Dayton, whether it’s on your shoe, or mine.

Who's Jason Smith? I liked having Farnsworth on the team.

He brought an intimidation factor to the roster. No one charges the mound at Kyle.

I'll put money right now

on a titanic Guillén-Farnsworth semi-final. The biggest risk is Freel, the upset special that makes it through at least to the Elite Eight.

Definitely Guillen-Farns

And no way Freel beats the Spork.

It should be Guillen-Farns and Kendall-Yuni, unless Frenchy manages to defeat Kendall through a “popular” vote.

Other than fantasy football playoffs,

this is the most exciting thing going on in my winter, sports-wise.

Wow, that’s sad.

I found #12 vs. #4 compelling

I really didn’t like either one. Went with Ankiel just because

This was kindof unfair

There were a couple of matchups in there with things I could have seen going deeper:

Non-tender Buck vs HoRam, Part II
Alex Gordon demoted vs Boom Boom

Whereas some of these got easier matchups:
Podsednik
Freel

Oh, and Jason Smith and Brian Anderson never had a chance :D

So, in short,

Podsednik and Freel are weaker North Carolina and Duke teams who get gifted good seeds in Raleigh and Charlotte regionals ;)
