Around SBN: Yankees Deny Rumors That Team Is For Sale

The link is to an article by the sometimes maligned Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune. While Rogers gets off track sometimes, I think he's spot on with this analysis. The Royals received a great deal of potential from the Brewers. Greinke will most definitely exceed expectations in the National League (his 2009 season would've been top 5 all-time if he'd been in the NL, I'd wager). But Escobar and Cain should mature with good coaching (something I trust Yost with more than Hillman).

In addition, one should always weigh the value of a trade against what the trading team would receive if the free agent chose not to re-sign(two late first round sandwich picks, yes?). It looks like any of these 4 prospects meet or exceed the two-first-round-pick criteria. - TL

I can't think of this as the Greinke trade or I hate it.

I keep forgetting Yuni was included and some money. And likely we lost another prospect because of his inclusion.

Anyways, I don’t feel that the Royals “won” this trade, but hope to be proven wrong.

And I meant to say something about the free agent compensation...

Is choosing your own 2 players better than what we got for Greinke? Possibly. DM has been pretty good in the 1st round and sandwich picks. I guess geting them 2 years earlier may be nice too.

From DM's perspective

If he doesn’t win soon, he won’t have to worry about those picks two years down the road

My thinking exactly.

GMDM needed these picks two years early!

A real chance you don’t get that 1st round pick.

Phil Rogers has done exactly one good thing for baseball in his career

And that is voting for Kevin Appier to receive the 1993 Cy Young. Other than that, he hasn’t done much for me to like him, including this article—which, whatever analysis is in it, seems pretty fluffy for the most part.

I loved Kevin Appier.

He might be my favorite Royal of the 1990s. But I still wish Hal McRae was manager. – TL

Same here

The curse of Hal MacRae wouldn’t be haunting us if that was the case. I still have nothing but love for Hal.

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

He was clearly...

…embracing it in the press conference—-though the citation of Jason Kendall in that regard was strange. -TL
