Projected Lineup and Roster

Below is my projected lineup, rotation and 25-man roster.  This reflects what I believe WILL happen, which may not necessarily be what i WANT to happen.  I will only use players currently in the system, but I am operating under the assumption that Greinke and Tejeda will be gone.  It is entirely possible we will get major-league ready players in return for them, but I don't want to do that much assuming.  Similarly, I will not include Kevin Millwood, even though it looks like a decent chance he'll be a Royal in 2011.

LINEUP

1. Jarrod Dyson (CF)
2. Mike Aviles (3B)
3. Billy Butler (DH)
4. Kila Ka'aihue (1B)
5. Alex Gordon (LF)
6. Yuniesky Betancourt (SS)
7. Brayan Pena (C)
8. David Lough (RF)
9. Chris Getz (2B)

BENCH

Wilson Betemit
Gregor Blanco
Mitch Maier
Lucas May
Joaquin Arias

ROTATION

Luke Hochevar
(someone else)
Kyle Davies
Vin Mazzaro
Sean O'Sullivan

BULLPEN

Joakim Soria
Tim Collins
Blake Wood
Gil Meche
Louis Coleman
Blaine Hardy

there is zero chance Millwood is a Royal.

I don't think Greinke plays for anyone other than the Royals next year.

I just don’t see anyone offering what GMDM would think he is valued at.

I don’t see Lough winning an everyday spot out of camp. I think Mitch in RF is more likely and there’s no extra RH bat.

Replace Lough with a platoon of Maier and a RH bat and I think you might be right.

Andruw Jones perhaps?

by WURoyal on Dec 4, 2010 1:39 AM EST reply actions

I disagree

Lough appears to be above average defensively, almost as good as Mitch. And it would be hard for him to be worse with the bat. I like Maier, but he has no business being in a lineup every day.

Which is

exactly why he will start opening day in right field.

I don't see any scenario that has us paying Betemit $1,000,000 to not start at third base.

I might be completely wrong on that one, but I see Aviles getting screwed or playing 2B most of the time. We need Yuni to slip on a cheeseburger wrapper and fall through his plasma screen, that way Aviles can just start at SS.

Wondering where we will get our grit in 2011.

Why bother to project this lineup?

Lineup:

  1. Suck
  2. Suck
  3. Suck
  4. Butler
  5. Suck
  6. Suck
  7. Suck
  8. Suck
  9. Suck

Rotation:

  1. Suck
  2. Suck
  3. Suck
  4. Suck
  5. Suck

Bullpen:

  1. Suck
  2. Suck
  3. Suck
  4. Suck
  5. Soria

Well, I plan on spending 2011 following the kids in the minors (again)

That’s not entirely fair. Rooting for Butler, Kila, and Aviles can be fun.

At least we can follow some of them to the majors now

(well, not many in 2011, but more in 2012)

My changes

Blanco should be in CF, his OBP is much better than Dysons

I expect Teaford and Pucetas to both be in the mix (pen or starter).

I would also like see to Getz and Aviles in the field when Luke pitches. Having a ground ball pitcher throw, with an infield that can’t catch groundball is stupid (SSDY).

i see Blanco getting a chance as well

not sure i see 3 rookies not on the 40-man making the bullpen either. i believe Holland and maybe Teixeira will get shots first (and maybe everyone’s favorite Chavez). Collins does have an advantage because he is LHP though.

I hate the Royals philosophy on running out RP that they know that will suck, instead of giving rookies a chance

It takes the team 2 months of blown games to eventually figure out the the pitchers that sucked in the past still suck

by Jeff Zimmerman on Dec 4, 2010 2:59 PM EST up reply actions

I think Holland is good

well, i actually agree with what you are saying, but i see why it happens. especially in a year where it won’t matter, i don’t think they’re going to want to start kicking guys off the 40-man without seeing what some of these guys can do a little more.

and even though it matters less with relievers, it doesn’t hurt to get the extra year of service time with ‘em either. there’s value in that whether they want to keep them for that long, or trade them somewhere down the line.

Good points. Actually holding them back until at least June 1st would give them some more time.

Just hopefully by the end of the season there are 4-5 decent bullpen guys set for 2012. It would be nice to have a good bullpen set up for the young starters once they begin.

Sadly, We Know

That GMDM still believes Yu-Bet is an awesome defender, so if anyone sits it will be Aviles.

I still see no scenario where Betemit doesn't play everyday over Aviles.

Not saying I agree with it, just saying that he is constantly punked by this organization. Plus we now have !,000,000 why he will. I would rather see Getz come off the bench and Aviles play 2B. I know it sucks defensively, but at least he gives us a fighting chance with his bat.

Wondering where we will get our grit in 2011.

by mitchfreakingmaier! on Dec 4, 2010 5:11 PM EST up reply actions

Betemit is at 3rd, Aviles at 2nd and Getz will be gone.

Although I would prefer Getz play 2nd and Aviles be gone.

As soon as I read this post. . .

. . . I started scrolling down looking for this comment.

Even though Moore has been playing hard to get so far, I still put the odds of Frenchy joining the team at 3:2.

win 80 games this year.

Love the enthusiasm Peterman.

I hope you’re right, but I think they’ll be lucky to win 70.

by AxDxMx on Dec 5, 2010 12:24 AM EST up reply actions

That is horrible

We should try this instead:

If Lee resigns with Texas. Trade Greinke and AA MVP Clint Robinson to the Yankees for: C/DH Prospect Jesus Montero, SS Eduardo Nunez, CF Brett Gardner and RHP Prospect Dellin Betances.

Then Soria to the Red Sox for OF Ryan Kalish and RHP Prospect Chris Balcolm-Miller.

2011
CF Gardner
RF Kalish
DH Butler
1B Kila
3B Betemit (until Moustakas call up)
2B Aviles
LF Gordon
SS Nunez
C Pena (until Montero call up)

1-Hoechevar
2-Mazarro
3-Davies
4-Monty
5-Teaford

Collins closes

2012
CF Gardner
1B Hosmer
DH Butler
3B Moustakas
C Montero
RF Wil Myers
LF Kalish
SS Nunez
2B Colin

  1. Monty
  2. Lamb
  3. Betances
  4. Dwyer/Duffy/Teaford
  5. Dwyer/Duffy/Teaford/Crow/Hoechevar

Collins,B Hardy,Coleman, etc

ECOUTER!

According to Google, that’s French for “fail”—which this lineup does dramatically due to lack of Francoeur.
