Pretty good inning-by-inning report. From the report, he comes off as a polished mid rotation starter. Low 90s velocity, but 4 average-to-plus pitches.

I'm pretty sure I've seen Royals Retro be keen on him, and it seems the Padres are as well.

It is hard to know this far in advance

But of the top 3 guys are off the board (Renaudo, Taillon, Harper), I hope the Royals take a long look at him and AJ Cole.

awesome

And keep us up to date on any of the position guys that may be worth drafting too.

I like McGuire

He’s tall (which Dayton will like) and already has command of four pitches. I think he could be in the majors pretty quickly. I still like Ranaudo and Taillon (and Harper) above him, but if there are signability/injury concerns with any of those three, McGuire wouldn’t be a total reach for the #3 pick.

I think we pick #4

and I just hope we don’t pick Ranaudo (I have these associations with him and Andrew Miller in my mind). Harper and Taillon would be great. With Taillon, I think there’s a glimmer of hope that he falls to us.

Would McGuire be a comp to Matusz?

Duh

I don’t know why I had it in my mind we drafted third. Yea, it will probably be down to McGuire, Cole, Sale and Colon with maybe Levon Washington as a dark horse. Some guys that could soar up boards this spring are Manny Machado, Yordy Cabrera and Austin Wilson.

Ranaudo

If Ranaudo is available I believe he will be their guy

saw him last year against Arkansas…very impressed

still i think the draft’s 1st 3 are Ranaudo, Tallion, and Harper in no specific order

Right

which has us looking at pitching talent in the next tier…McGuire, Cole, Sale, etc.

What about Christian Colon?

Any chance on picking up an actual SS, or are the Royals drafting too high to consider him?

I think he is in the mix

But I think the consensus is that his ceiling is fairly low with some questioning whether he can stay at SS.
