I can't wait until opening day for 5 reasons (plus one and some rambling).
Five:
Opening Day itself…..I’ve been to opening day 9 years in a row (or ten, or eight, really can’t remember) and I know many more here have been to many more. I left early for the Mendy Lopez shot (8th inning…went to blue river 9 hole golf course all wasted and heard the conclusion of the game on the radio....ten people from work saw me stroll right on out of the stadium like a Chauncey ass fan…..never lived that one down) and missed it, I have froze my ass off on multiple occasions, and remember a bunch of drinking in a variety of locations.. Plus…..3pm start time only helps. Seeing the crowd, 38,000 strong (or 36,322, or whatever it is these days), playoff atmosphere, not a buck night……Mmmmm, good.
Four:
Zack Grienke….Zackkkkkkkkk…….nuff said.
Three
As misplaced as they may be.....Memories of 2003….we can say all that we want about 2003, but being able to go to the K with a broom for game 4 of a Twins series in August (which we lost) and being able to actually purchase tickets for meaningful games…….I went every opportunity I had because I knew it may never happen again. I almost bought season tickets for 04 because I didn’t want to miss out on playoff tickets……seems like just yesterday......
Two:
Regression to the mean…often mentioned, but never quite given its due, is regression to the mean. The statistical probability that you can only suck so bad for so long before simple mathematics ensure that……you have a year like 2003.
Most importantly,
One:
My daughter. Already a veteran of 15+ games at the age of 20 months. Finally old enough to enjoy the carousel. ....One year late for being able to beat Mike Jacobs to first.. Trying to provide the memories that I had as a child……Remembering the 18 inning Rangers game when I was 9 or 10, remembering Willie Wilson throw a strike to a fan in the crowd two hours before a game in 198….something. knowing I may be dead when she sees a Royals title. Cuddling late nights watching the bullpen blow Zack’s leads. Sharing my passion with a small wonderful human being….we will be at the K every Sunday home game. She claps when DeJesus does well. ..she loves his smirk, as well as Gordon's....... She still sleeps with the lion we got on a Sunday afternoon giveaway. She also thinks Yuni’s lateral movement is shit!
So, I guess that's the rambling.......so here's some more.....
The innocence of blindly loving something you can’t understand….being more excited about picking up dirty empty beer cups than the game itself…..seeing drunks rip seats from the structure, fans jump from the stands……the "Tastes Great", "Less Filling" screams back and forth from R and L field GA…all before the age of 10…… the luxury of listening or watching every day to a sports team that I love………looking forward to game threads and holding large amounts of false hope…..But I digress….introducing, ………reason (plus one and some rambling). that I can't wait for opening day.

I would edit....
but I’m lazy. I never understood why the draft can’t stand alone…..fragmented, but real.
Springdale 2010., fool!!!!!!!!

I appreciated the stream of consciousness feel of it
It was very appropriate for the excitement you were conveying.

Well said
Even in dark seasons that you know are going to suck, Opening Day is exciting. Baseball is baseball and the Royals are the Royals. No matter how bad they are, it’s still fun. I wish I could take my little girl to games at the K. She’s still a little too young to enjoy it (9 months), but it won’t be long.

Opening Day might be the only day that the Royals have a winning record this year...
ITS GOING TO BE MAGNIFICENT!

When you do take her the first time..
Be sure to tell guest services its her first game. They’ll print a certificate with her name, which is pretty cool.

Agree
Seeing Tucson Royals’ spring training pics gets me excited. Yea, I’m pessimistic about the year, but baseball always has the potential to surprise you. And I still get to see Zack, Soria, Billy Butts, I get to pull for Alex Gordon, I get to see one of my all-time faves in DJ every day. Its baseball and I love it.

me too
I can’t wait to be an obnoxious, vindictive jerk when Gordon has a monster season, and/or start making excuses for him if he doesn’t.

To do with objectivity or reason. This goes for successful franchises and the Royals, too.

Indeed...
sharing the Royals with your daughter is quite enjoyable. Mine will be 5 this summer, and has been to probably 20-25 games. So, you’re way ahead of the curve on that, but it’s not so easy to take them once they get mobile. The extra activities that have been added are very nice to distract a hyperactive child. Mine loves the carousel and playground, so that’s nice that we don’t have to leave, just take a mid-game break.
Anyway, I am equally excited about opening day. I take the approach that no matter how bad the team projects to be, there is a chance we can win the games my family and I attend.
Don't Stop Believing!
Optimism
Every team I get depressed about the team I always think that, baseball, and sporting events in general are fun. They’re meant to be fun and despite how aggravating the season and the team can be, I go there to watch the game live to have fun.
By May I’ll be depressed again, haha.

Loved the post
no matter how bad we might be, I always start getting optimistic about March.
And I agree, as someone who got to go to a lot of games in 2003, I relate to you in that I still have great memories from that season in actually getting to go to games that really mattered. A crazy 13-9 win or something like that against the Yankees is one that always comes to my mind first.

I think I've said this before, but that was my favorite Royals game I've ever attended
My parents had to sit in the parking lot, because we figured we could just walk up and get two extra tickets. One of the many days exemplifying the sacrifices my parents make for their children every day. One last glorious day before I jumped into Calculus and Engineering classes, too.

agreed
I am so ready for opening day! Obviously, we will suck, but that’s to the usual. As a lifelong fan born in KC in 1981, I am still ready. Just ordered a new Weber smoker, and got fresh batteries for my radio. I’ll be at my apartment near the Plaza drinking PBRs and burning food, or ordering Peanut wings carry-out all summer. Just me and my dumb dog and the Royals. I’m so excited.
Ready?
Try desperate. Need baseball. Now.

Very nice.
Opening day means spring is finally at hand. And every season there is at least one team that performs way beyond expectations. In April, there is always a chance that KC will be that team. Play ball!!!
