Although by all means I'm sure he's a great/standup guy
…I’m not a fan of Moustakas as a former first round draft pick. I don’t see how he projects….I’m sorry. To me, he has two tools: raw power and a throwing arm. Unfortunately, he can’t play defensively at: SS, CF. He probably can’t play offensively at: 1B, RF, LF. He’ll have to reach his offensive potential, IMO, at this point to be a 3-win or higher 3B. 2B is a waste of throwing arm and his range might not play there, so that’s iffy. Catcher is an intriguing option; but that won’t happen. Not to mention he has shown a total lack of plate discipline thus far and inability to work out of monumental slumps. Also, his range and glovework are severely limited.
That’s why I see him as probably the seventh best prospect in the organization.
There definitely seems to be balance in this system…in other words, it’s the opposite of top-heavy like it was at the end of the Allard Baird Era, R.I.P. Nonetheless, the facts that it is devoid of position player talent and lacks an “A-” prospect is a black mark, IMO. The silver lining is that I could realistically see Chris Dwyer, David Lough, and John Lamb catapulting to top 5 status…this reflects the evenness that I mentioned.

I just don’t see how you can give up on a kid with that type of pop in his bat when he is 21. Yes it would’ve been nice to get Matt Wieters but going from JoPo’s article that didn’t seem like KC wanted to commit that much money to a 1st round pick. Moustakas knows his weakness as he mentioned in his interview with Ford and early returns shows him working on it in limited PAs in Spring.
The problem is fan visuals of the farms system. The young kids in A and A+ are playing in severly depressed hitting environments. Would it make you feel better if Moose would’ve went to the Cal league last year and knocked the ball around. Would lookin at over inflated numbers like Donachie, Kila, Maier, Brandon Powell and Lubanski put up in ‘05 make you feel better? He isn’t Billy Butler he doesn’t wake up and flat knock the ball around the park but I don’t think there are tons of kids like Billy out there no matter what BA, Goldstein, Law, etc. say. He knows his weakness and he is adjusting. To say he can’t make adjustments and workout of a slump is jumpin the gun a bit. He worked out of a slump pretty well in A ball.
He is young and while he is no Joe Mauer look at what one of the best pure hitters in the game at a similar age did in his first 2 stops in the Midwest and FSL. A little too early to jump off the ship on Moustakas.
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.
