They also said Crow is making a strong showing to be the 5th starter out of camp

He has been playing solidly and is looking good. That would be pretty impressive.

(dont remember if this was 610 or 810)

I really hope they don't. There is no way he is ready.

A ML season is so long, there is just no way after being off for basically two years that he is ready to be a major league pitcher for the long haul and I just fear he would get hurt trying. I’d much rather see him start in AA or AAA and then ease into it. We have plenty of example on this team of guys being brought to the majors because their “stuff” is ready but their minds or bodies cannot handle the pressure and wear and tear of playing the major leagues (Ankiel, Hochevar, perhaps Gordon).

Let him become a professional in the minors where the glare isn’t so bright and his workload can be better controlled. Especially if we’re going to be “stretching out” our starting rotation. He needs to get some time in building his body up to handle higher pitch counts back to back before we bring him up and destroy him.

I’d love to see him wearing blue at the K, but not until he’s ready to own it.

i said the same thing last year about Porcello in DET

but they seemed to monitor him well and he was strong even in his “playoff” start against the twins… so it has been done successfully recently.

Hochevar threw, but

does anyone have any idea how well he threw in the B game on Monday? I haven’t heard anything yet.

by MinnesotaRoyal on Mar 11, 2010 1:48 PM EST reply actions

From the Royals official website

“Hoch was pretty good,” manager Trey Hillman said. “On purpose, he wasn’t throwing any sliders or two-seamers today. He wanted to work on fastball command, rotation of the curveball and his changeup.”

Hochevar gave up one run, two hits and a walk in 2 2/3 innings in his first outing since an intrasquad game. John Parrish, a left-hander, had two scoreless innings, and Matt Herges and Bruce Chen, another lefty, had one each.
