Perfect non perfect game

So today I just finished a game of MLB 2K10 where I allowed the minimum amount of batters, except doing so with a one hitter (fucking Mark Teahen), but thanks to a double play hit into by Omar Vizquel that erased the base runner I was able to face the minimum number of hitters.

Has this happened in real life, and is there a term for this where you face the minimum batters but do not actually throw a perfect game?

Your box score for said game

Greinke 9.0 IP, 0 R, O ER, 0 BB, 15K's 0 HR, 80 PITCHES! (0.33 ERA through 6 starts 5 W's 80 K's (Nolan Ryan I have my sights on you!)).

Oh and just so you know I have less plate disipline than Olivo, with a team batting average of .316 and an OBP of .324 (thats 3 whole walks through 26 games).

I've only heard it referred to as "facing the minimum"

I remember listening to a Royals game back in the 80’s in which Saberhagen gave up two singles in a complete game shutout, with both base runners erased by double plays.

My favorite real world perfect game, that wasn’t a real perfect game, but is counted in the record books as a perfect game (with an asterisk) is Ernie Shore in 1917. Babe Ruth was pitching for the Red Sox and walked the first batter on four pitches. He got into a shouting match with the home plate umpire and got tossed. Shore came in and retired the next 27 batters without a base runner, recording an unconventional and semi-official perfect game.

Im convinced that the MLB 2K10 programmers have made it impossible to throw a perfect game...

And not to blow smoke, but I didn’t have a ball leave the infield in the first 8 innings, rarely threw more than 3 pitchers to a hitter, about the only way you could have a more dominating performance would be if Xaq pitched against an American Legion team. And then the 2nd pitch of the 9th inning (the first being a curve ball about 3 feet outside) Mark Teahen roped a ball into the gap, then the next two batters went back to being semi-retarded.

Of course had I thrown a perfect game it wouldn’t have won me the million because a) I wasn’t recording it, and b) I have the hitting sliders adjusted a little because I can’t hit anything, but the pitching settings are left alone.

I love this time of year.... The Royals are always in first place!!!

i completely agree

I got to the 8th inning with Zack and Mark DeRosa hit’s some gap double off a slider way out of the zone. It was utter crap. What console are you playing it on?

That’s the farthest I’ve gotten, but I’ve had 2 other perfect attempts broken up in like the 5th and 6th on pure garbage.

In the end, I respect that they’ve made it difficult. It makes it more realistic I guess.

playing on 360... If I had a PS3 I probably would have gone with the Show.

Next time I have a no-no going into the 9th Im probably just going to walk a batter to ruin the perfect game, but so I can still get a no-no.

I thought

the runner got caught stealing or picked off or something, then Shore retired the next 26, so that only 27 batters came to the plate. Either way, impressive.

Murphy was an optimist.

Look up

Perfect Game on wikipedia. There’s a substantive list of “close calls” and assorted other trivibits.

I DID IT!!!

Of course it didn’t make me eligible for the million because I didn’t record it, and I have the hitting settings different than All-Star, but That didn’t keep me from jumping off of the couch any differently.

Dude

You’ve had a perfect game and a near-perfect game? Put the sliders back in place and start recording. It’s time to win that million dollars!

As an aside, I assume that since you were facing Mark Teahen that these really are 2010 rosters? Who makes the team for the Royals and what positions do they play?

I dont have anyway to record it though...

Im going to see what happens when I play an “official” attempt at it.

Some Catcher whom Ive never heard of, and pretty much everyone else you would expect. My roster isn’t what you would expect, for some reason TB traded Burrell straight up for Guillen and I signed Dye to a one year deal. I sent Betancourt down for Aviles. I was a little dissappointed that Kila wasn’t listed even though he’s been called up before.

borrow a f'ng camera

win a million dollars and then buy your own.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.

I played a game on All-Star... And I lost 1-0 and struck out 21 times...

Only hit the ball off the ground once… Nearly threw my controller through my TV… I dont think Im going to try again.

I dont have the patience...

And if I can’t score a run and have to go into extras, not only that I only allowed one run, but it was on like 10 hits, and I only was able to roll a weak grounder down the third baseline… Anybody other than Scotty Pods would have been thrown out.
