Around SBN: The Ten Worst Swings Of The 2011 Season

Seitzer wants line drives, not desert-aided fly balls.

"I want them to stay on the top half of the ball to get that backspin," he said. "We just crushed the ball last spring, but all of those Arizona homers turn into fly balls that don’t reach the warning track."

Real power potential like Ankiel, Gordon and Butler will not be helped by this. I’m not sure anyone will. It sounds like an annoyance more than anything.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

I'd really just prefer talent.

But who am I?

wouldn't hitting the top half of the ball create topspin, not backspin?

i think this is a good idea considering we don’t have many good power hitters and our home ballpark deflates power numbers and inflates batting average.

I think they are using top as a relative term

Still the bottom half of the ball, but closer to the equator so you are less likely to pop it up.

All around this seems like a good idea, the only players who don’t need to concentrate on LDs are the big bulky power guys who can just muscle the ball out…and the royals don’t have anyone like that.

Seems to make sense...

Have to trust Seitzer on this one. I have nothing like the expertise to know whether it’ll work or not.

The Royals must think this is slow pitch softball

Where any ball hit over the fence is considered an out.

I assume this is just a build up to the inevitable burying of Kila

I'm not a sabermetrician, but I do play one at FanGraphs.
