Game 11 Lineup at ChiSox (3/15) - Greinke vs. Buerhle - 9:05 CT

Late game tonight at 9:05 CT on MLB.TV and MLB Network. Both recently-acquired former Sox will make the start against their old team.

Unnecessary Mike Jacobs update: at the time of writing this, he's 3-for-12 with 2 jacks, 2 Ks, and 5 walks. I didn't realize he could walk that much.

If you haven't seen it, Rany has a new article up on the Royals left-handed prospects here.

And for those that aren't around KC to check it out, the logo on the back of the CrownVision was finished today, though, as some others commented, it looks weird because of the reversed colors from the old board (best picture I could find).

Star-divide

Lineup against the Sox:

1. Pods - CF

2. Kendall - C

3. DDJ - LF

4. Billy - 1B

5. Guillen - DH

6. Maier - RF

7. Fields - 3B

8. Yuni - SS

9. Getz - 2B

P - Greinke

Nationally televised, so they'd better bring their A-game

I’m glad I get to see Greinke pitch. I hope he plunks AJP.

With Ankiel's ankle "soreness"...

is this the first time that we’ve seen DDJ – LF, Pods – CF, and Maier – RF alignment in the outfield? Defensively, I don’t hate it….. (talking specifically about the OF here)

Tension is the enemy. - Charlie Lau

by aHorseWithNoName on Mar 15, 2010 4:54 PM EDT reply actions

I think that is a bizarre OF alignment

If Pods is on the field, the only place for him is LF. I think both DDJ and Maier are better defensively in CF. So to have those three players in the OF with Maier in RF and Pods in CF is inexplicable.

The immoderate moderator

by NYRoyal on Mar 15, 2010 5:02 PM EDT up reply actions

I guess with DDJ's noodle arm

he should be in LF or CF, Maier could really be anywhere, and Pods shouldn’t be in CF. So, really, switch Pods and DDJ and it’s better, but I’ll take this over Jose anywhere. Could be worse.

by MinnesotaRoyal on Mar 15, 2010 5:08 PM EDT up reply actions

"Could be worse."

That’s about what I meant by “don’t hate it”. These 3 should at least cover the area. I’d like it less in a “real” game, but don’t mind it in ST.

Tension is the enemy. - Charlie Lau

by aHorseWithNoName on Mar 15, 2010 6:38 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't mind anything in ST

…as long as what happens in ST bears no relation to what will happen in the regular season. Unfortunately, I think these mistakes are telling. I think the CF depth chart goes 1) Ankiel, 2) Podsednik. And that is so stupid it’s sad.

Is Crow pitching tonight? Any word on other pitchers?

Pods in CF over Maier is ridiculous. Maier is their best option in CF and has played as well as anyone in ST. At least BA is playing so poorly that Maier shouldn’t get exposed to waivers but hey this is GMDMs team and it’ll probably happen anyway.

I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

by kcscoliny on Mar 15, 2010 5:26 PM EDT reply actions

I've only heard that Soria will throw.

I would lean toward not expecting Crow to pitch, but it has been several days since we’ve seen him, so it’s very likely. The only other name I’ve heard is Jenks for the Sox.

Great quote from FanGraphs
While each might be worth (another) try in the rotation, Davies and Tejeda profile better as relievers, and Farnsworth profiles better as an object lesson in what kind of player not to sign to a multi-year deal.

by MinnesotaRoyal on Mar 15, 2010 5:50 PM EDT reply actions

And a rather unfortunate quote
I’ve run the numbers – if Butler and Gordon turned into Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez, the 2010 Royals still wouldn’t project as a .500 team.

The Royals have enough of those. Jorge Campillo’s CHONE projection is actually better than Sonnantine’s. Actually, he’s fairly young, cheap depth, so I wouldn’t mind having him (although I don’t know that he upgrades the rotation), but I wouldn’t give up much for him.

This is a nightmare....

Something about this being the first game I’ve been able to watch has really brought it home to me: I hate this team. Honestly. Four of our projected nine offensive starters are Pods, Kendall, Yuni and Jose Guillen. It’s so depressing I can’t stand it.

To watch Pods give up that Triple over his head just made something snap. The best pitcher in franchise history. And he has to play with those clowns. Pods, Kendall, Yuni and Josey. So depressing.

Ya that's why I bought an ORoyals season ticket this year.

I stomached so many bad games last year I had to do something to get me out of the house. BIlly once every three innings is just not enough to get me to stay home.

I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

by kcscoliny on Mar 15, 2010 10:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Honest to God, angry...

This team feels like a personal affront. I hated these types of moves in the mid-90s when Herk Robinson made them. And we’re still putting up with them?

by billexgordler on Mar 15, 2010 10:47 PM EDT up reply actions

I know what you mean

I just bought the MLB.com package for the first time ever. I was very excited. Then when I started watching this game I was like, “Oooooooooh shit.”

by big matt on Mar 15, 2010 10:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Just call it what it is:

The Zack package. I bought the thing solely to watch Zack pitch. And I’ll watch most of the other games too, but really, $120 or whatever is worth it to see every one of Zack’s games. But watching Pods miss that triple…….i’m worried that I’m just going to spend every one of his outings pissed off at the team. Unlikeable and bad. YUNI? Kendall’s been terrible for YEARS!!!

Sorry, i’m just letting off some steam. It’s so much worse watching these guys than reading about them…
