Gotta go with the B-game lineup
DeJesus, Butler, Aviles, Pena and Getz with no Yuni or Kendall.

Can someone email (fax) Dayton Moore about
which hitter should bat in which spot of the batting order. It seems like a quality hitter keeps being hit third (Dejesus, Callaspo) while a subpar hitter is second (Betamit?!).
It’s one thing to be confused about how good Kendall is, but entirely another to lack understanding of how to arrange a batting order.
Zapp Brannigan/Dayton Moore quote of the day: "[my most important sabermetric stats are] runs scored and runs driven in"

Names drawn from a hat?
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

Trey Hillman has never heard of "optimal lineups"
He’s still using the manager’s handbook © 1980

The best hitter on the team should hit second
And every team has a best hitter.

Actually the optimal lineup is too complicated for me to come up with it off the top of my head
If I remember correctly, the best hitters should be in the 2 and 1 slots. And I believe the next best hitter usually should go in the 4 slot. So, I think 1-2 should be DDJ, Butler. After that, it gets complicated. I’d have open up my copy of “The Book” or use the Baseball Musings lineup optimization tool.

OK
Going to use the optimization tool and CHONE projections for ‘projected’ starters w/ Gordon on DL and see what pops up. Will be back soon.
Cool, thanks
That’s always fun and interesting.

There are six combos that yield the same "runs per game"
But here’s basically what it spit out. 4.429 runs per game on avg. for this lineup of players, with the following order increasing that to 4.565 runs per game. (That’s 740 runs for the season, which isn’t very impressive for a “max” forecast)
1. David Dejesus (all 6 variations)
2. Billy Butler (all 6 variations)
3. Scott Podsednik (3) / Chris Getz (3)
4. Rick Ankiel (4) / Jose Guillen (2)
5. Alberto Callaspo (6)
6. Jose Guillen (2) / Rick Ankiel (2) / Yuniesky Betancourt (2)
7. Yuniesky Betancourt (4) / Jose Guillen (2)
8. Jason Kendall (6)
9. Chris Getz (3) / Scott Podsednik (3)
Yeah, I thought I remembered that there is usually a shitty hitter at #3. Looks like the third best hitter is the #5 spot.

I like the move to put Getz at DH
Obviously not happening in the season, but he’s been having trouble (and working on his swing), so why not let him focus today just on getting his offensive productivity in check.
BTW, why the hell has Kendall been catching for Zack and Gil, but not for Davies and Tejada? I thought he was supposed to bring that “intangible factor”? So, why not let him walk some young guys through games in ST? Gil and Zack don’t need him so much right now.
With the 8 moves last night and today what does that leave?
Rosa to Omaha what’s the probability of Wood breakin with KC? 80% or greater?
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.
At least it's interesting
Tejeda and Rosa are also RH “power” arms (and Cruz if he finds himself), so there’s no guarantee, but the Royals have a knack for tipping their pitches early in spring training, so yeah, Wood is probably on the inside track since they’ve spent so much effort hyping him so far. I don’t mind it at all—as long as it’s taken Wood to move in the system, he may not be durable enough to ever start again, and, as reluctant as this org. seems to be about allowing young guys to show if they can be helpful, any deviation is good. With Wood, the pen would be:
Soria
Tejeda/Farnsy (whoever’s not starting)
Cruz
Colon
Wood
Osuna
Davies or the “best” of the remainders (Herges, Rupe, Chen, Humber, Parrish, Hughes, Lerew, Bullington…whatever)
That seems like a more appropriate name.
