Around SBN: Hugh Douglas Admits To Stealing From Jaguars

Game 13 vs. Padres (3/17) - 3:05 CT

Big news of the day: Aaron Crow was optioned to NW Arkansas. I would suspect that, barring any serious issues, we'll probably see him for a September call-up if not sooner.

Late article by Dutton on the Royals left-handed options. Looks like Osuna and Hughes are the most likely candidates to make the roster, with Osuna getting a chance at starting Saturday against the Cubs.

Hoch takes the bump today with Soria, Cruz, Humber, and Rupe all scheduled to make an appearance. Clayton Richard will throw for SD.

Gameday here.

Star-divide

Lineup:

1. Pods - CF

2. Callaspo - 3B

3. DDJ - RF

4. Billy - 1B

5. Fields - DH

6. Maier - LF

7. Betemit - SS

8. Kendall - C

9. Getz - 2B

P - Hoch

Aaron Crow

Don’t they realize they’re going to screw him up by leaving him down there? Don’t stifle the kid….he needs the limelight NOW.

How about Omaha?

He could be a Runza spokesman or something, that would be limelight, no?

by Tito42 on Mar 17, 2010 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions

not a bad lineup

But would it be possible to fit Kila in here or not?

by Crooow on Mar 17, 2010 1:34 PM EDT reply actions

Boot Fields

and put Kila in his place. That would be my easy solution. As Kila and Mitch have had what seem to be the best springs out of the whole group of position players (as seen in the good spring stats compilation here at Royals Authority), they might not get as much time in the lineup to get some good looks at the other players, since we know those two are playing well. Hopefully their good springs translate into a spot with the team, but who knows what they’ll come up with next.

I looked twice, but

I didn’t see Dukes in today’s lineup. what gives?

on another note, richard’s mound presence really bugs me.

lay on their sides on the dirt. That way, Callaspo and Betemit will cover more ground.

Crow

I find this to be good news on two different fronts:

1) They consider him good enough to start at AA instead of high A

2) Even if he might be one of the best 12 pitchers right now – they see the value in letting him get some work in the high minors, especially since they want him to be a starter and not a reliever. In addition, service time and arb time get positive impacts from the decision

Best case scenario – he pitches in AA like he did in ST, gets bumped to Omaha in July, succeeds there, gets a cup of coffee in September, and goes to 2011 ST with the inside track on being the long reliever for 2011, with the plan to ease him into the rotation mid-season 2011

Mr Glass, this is a pro sports team, not a retail store - run it like one!

by loyal2sdad on Mar 17, 2010 4:29 PM EDT reply actions

Definitely

I just hope that they’re smart enough to handle his development well. I’m worried they’ll push him too hard, though this start in AA suggests that they’re going to take it easy and warm him up first. Since I’m a believer in the “Alex Gordon was rushed and that’s why he has had a rough go” theory, I worry about how KC develops their players quite a bit.
