Hmm
His offense is all that matters.
Put him in at DH.
The guy has excellent OBP and OPS numbers – actually takes walks!!!!!
RH batter!
Hawpe in the Royals lineup would change things, quickly.

Ya and his offense would probably change too going from Coors to the K
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.
hmm
He hit 5 more homers on the road last season.
…had a similar BA on the road too.

His career home/road split differential is shockingly note huge
High OBP both home and road, with a predictable but not massive difference in SLG.

I don't see how he fits on this team
He is a negative on the field so you can add him to Alberto and Billy as guys that should be a DH. Plus paying him 17.5M the next two seasons is too much for a DH on a team like the Royals especially when the guy is gonna be 31. He had a .240 road ISO last season surely that number comes back down to the .190 range it was prior the previous two seasons except he won’t have the same Home ISO to offset it and he’ll be playing in the tougher AL.
KC should go with Kila who will cost them 450k.
He is a nice player for the Rockies other than fielding and he’d be a nice player for a AL team that could afford him as their DH but just not the right guy for the Royals.
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.
Hawpe is, by far, the worst defensive RF in baseball
and his bat, in a neutral environment, is only about +10/150. Do you want to trade and pay for a 1 win 31 year-old DH in a non=contending year?
Frankly, that the Rockies keep starting him despite having clearly better options. I think they are the best team in the NL West this year, but they could probably gain a win by benching/trading Hawpe in favor of whichever of Seth Smith/Spilboroughs/Fowler/Gonzalez group is sitting for Hawpe.

Contract
He’s actually owed one year only. His second year is a team option.
I just like Hawpe, and I think in a new scene he could really rake.
I do like Kila at first, but I doubt that happens. Hillman likes to use preventative lineups and defensive alignments.

what do you think would help Hawpe "rake" more in KC?
Superior Al pitching, or the more difficult park?

This is a more appropriate picture of Hawpe

lol....
you guys are always so negative!
Not many perfect RFers are available!
Unless you are all cozy with DJJ in right.

How about Callaspo in left and DDJ in center and Ankiel in Right
or if the team really thinks Callaspo had the arm for third, try HIM in RF

Yeah, we have some ok RFers on the team
Ankiel, DeJesus, Maier. I think those worried about DDJ in RF are misguided. The importance of a strong arm in RF is overrated. DDJ is going to be a plus defender in RF; not quite as good as he was in LF, but I doubt he’ll be much worse.
And I wouldn’t mind trying Callaspo there, although I think his range would be problematic. I believe good range in getting to balls and doing so quickly is more important for keeping base runners from going to third than a strong arm is.

How can you be positive about the worst defensive OF in MLB?
I know.
He's got to be due for some positive regression.
