Game at Fenway
Planning on attending a game at Fenway over Memorial Day weekend while the Royals are in Beantown clobbering the Red Sox. Pure coincidence that the Royals will be in town while my wife and I are there for our anniversary. I know we have Royals fans all over the country on here so I was hoping that somebody would be from Boston or have a familiarity with Fenway. Has anybody from the RR community attended a game in Boston or have any suggestions on buying tickets?

Good luck.
Watch stub hub. Weekend game. Memorial day. You will probably be looking at 2 bills for nose bleed seats.

Not bad actually
Found lower level seats for around 1 bill each. They do sell Standing Room Only tickets to every game though it appears. And they are like 35 bones on Stub Hub. You can get a pretty good seat at the K for $35.

I hate to say this, but be prepared to be heckled, yelled at and cursed at if you wear any Royals gear
Many Sox fans at Fenway are mean spirited, vicious, vile assholes. Things will be particularly bad if you are in the cheap seats.

I went to Fenway two summers ago rocking some KC gear..........it was amazing
The game I went to was the Coco Crisp vs. James Shields brawl.
I bought my tickets directly from their website….but I bought them very early. It was probably around this time of the year….maybe a little later on in the spring. It said my seat was “obstructed view” because of the large beams they still have to support the roof, but it was an awesome seat. I had to lean one way if I wanted to see an area of the field next to 1B, but it was nothing to complain about for as close as the seats were. There are a few good seat data websites that will help you find out how poor of a view you have if you do end up with obstructed view as your best option remaining.
I would highly recommend taking the tour of Fenway prior to the game. It only cost about $15. They take you up in the press box, down behind home plate, up on the Monster seats, down to Pesky Pole, etc. On the tour I went on, Spaceman Bill Lee just happened to show up and take the tour with us, so he was telling all sorts of old time stories from his playing days. Anyway, you can’t buy tickets for the tour days in advance, you just show up that day and they’ll sell you tickets then. I literally showed up five minutes before the tour started and bought tickets. There were other people from the KC area on the tour, which was cool.
I didn’t experience any hateful or nasty behavior at all in Boston. Granted, it wasn’t a Royals vs. Red Sox game, but I was still wearing my KC hat for the entire time in Boston. Just a few “Royals fan, eh?” comments here and there at the concession stands. But you get comments like that in this part of Missouri, to be honest.
Sounds like NYRoyal had a different experience…but it was awesome when I was there. I also went to Yankee Stadium and didn’t have any issues there with the Yankee fans out in the OF seats. The atmosphere around the stadium was sweet—-much more of a fan friendly experience than roasting out in the concrete parking lots at the K.

I saw the Royals play the Yankees at old Yankee Stadium 2 years ago...
The game we won because of a Riviera wild pitch in the 9th… I thought I was gonna get shanked in the Subway afterwords, I was wearing my George Brett “pine tar shirt” and this guy kept yelling at me… “FUCKING GEORGE BRETT!?!?!? FUCKING GEORGE BRETT EHH!!!! FUCKING GEORGE BRETT!?!?!?!” I just kept looking forward and tried to hide my smile from him.
I was in the center field bleachers for the game, and a couple rows below me there was a bunch of Royals fans who noticed that I was wearing the “George Brett Pine Tar Shirt” which is also known as the “Last game Scott Elarton threw for the Royals game.” who also happened to be at that game, so we had a real good time reminising about how awful that game was, all while the Royals somehow pulled out a victory against the Yankees in a game that the great Mariano Riviera pitched in… Old Yankee Stadium was a total shithole… Thank god that sucker is extinct.

Visited the old Yankee Stadium back in 2004
Sat in the upper deck behind home plate, not bad actually. Except that the upper deck goes straight up and straight down. Felt like I needed trekking poles to get to and from our seats. Only had 2 beers, afraid I might fall if I had too many. And yes, the stadium was a shithole but it still had a pretty magical feel to it.

I went to a Braves - Red Sox game a few years ago now...
And it was cool. I can not see why you would want to subject yourself as a Royals fan to the torture that will be a Royals game in Fenway though… I took the stadium tour the following day rocking some Royals gear and the tour guide was relentless (albeit cool, despite being like 80). Red Sox fans are a strange breed, and the stadium is kind of a dump. I actually had more fun taking the stadium tour than watching the game.

I went to a Royals-Sox game at Fenway in 2008.
Unluckily enough, it was Jon Lester’s no-no. My roommates and I sat in the bleacher seats. I was the only one wearing any type of baseball gear (a Brett shersey).
Sox fans heckled the shit out of me. Granted, it was a no-hitter, but they were pretty much assholes the whole time. A couple people threw shit at me as the game went on (I suppose I may have had it coming — I yelled “YOOOOOOOOOUUUUU” when Youk made an error at 3B). Aside from that, though, I was pretty well mannered and kept quiet for the most part.
Just be prepared for the worst and you’ll probably be pleasantly surprised. I think Sox fans are more annoying than any other group I’ve encountered, but it just depends on what group you get around you and the dynamics of the particular game, etc.
Fenway, by the way, is an awesome place to catch a game, asshole Sox fans notwithstanding.

I take the Youk error part back
he didn’t make an error in the game — I’m not sure exactly what it was I made fun of him for. I just hate him.

I will have the little lady with me
So I’m hoping that the Sox fans will show pity on me, but it’s highly likely that this could make it worse. Either way, I will just smile and laugh at myself so I fit right in.

If you want to have an nice time
…I would suggest no Royals gear and don’t cheer for the Royals too loudly. Otherwise, you’re going to get harassed verbally and possibly physically.

And the Boston fans take it on the road with them
I attended a game vs. the Sox at the K in the salad days of 2003. It was a close game and the Sox went up by 1 in the bottom of the eighth. (if I had time I’d look up the box score). Anyway, there was this increasingly obnoxious sox fan taunting the whole crowd…walking up and down the aisle, really getting out of line. I mean I don’t usually care what people yell at the games but he was seriously getting on my nerves. others were getting very pissed, you could tell there were going to be some sparks after the game. Well, the Royals ended up winning in the bottom of the ninth on an E-Nomar…and sure enough about 6 guys went down and jumped the Sox guy….security came down to break it up, big mess, but he ended up walking away with a beer soaked shirt, torn cap and no apparent injuries
I’d be interested to see what would happen to a Royals fan behaving that way in Boston…not that I’m suggesting anyone try it…
