Around SBN: Yankees Deny Rumors That Team Is For Sale

"The Royals entered the day leading all 30 teams with a .313 average and all American League teams with 163 runs. That was before generating 10 more runs and 19 more hits."

I know it is only spring training, and a lot has come at the end of the games, but...

but,

This is still the Royals, and they will be desperate for runs most games. Don’t be fooled by ST stats, especially when they are put up by the people who won’t get playing time. Not to mention our pitching staff, which has the potential to be one of the best in baseball, is looking sketchy.

Totally True

It just shows how different ST is from the regular season. But it is still funny.

I do think that with the injuries, that Maier and Kila may have played their way onto the opening day roster. However, with Aviles and Gordon likely coming back in a month, I don’t see him staying without an injury in the outfield that gets Guillen some playing time there, sending down Yuni or Getz, or trading Bloomquist. It will even need to be a combination of those factors.

Fields has played his way off the team — I see him getting passed through waivers or being traded for a PTBNL/cash. If Callaspo can’t make opening day, they might keep him just long enough for that situation to be resolved. Betemit has played better, but the minor league contract hurts him, I think. You don’t bring him up with an impending roster crunch only to be passed through waivers a month into the season.

Guillen is not worth his money, but he is a sunken cost that the Royals will not dispose of without getting some trade compensation.

Don't be too quick to assume that

As the season progresses, the “cost” of kicking Guillen to the curb decreases. If he’s not producing and the team’s actually still showing signs of life, the chances of him getting laid off increase substantially.

This space for rent.

Yeah, it only took

until Ron Mahay had like 6 whole weeks left on his contract for him to get the ax

Didn't they lead last ST too

I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

Yes.

Regression to the mean is going to be nasty during the regular season.

regression to the mean would be awesome

for this offense

Our scrubs

can beat up the other team’s scrubs.

If Callaspo is injured, could Kila play 3rd Base?

I’ve never seen him play and am under the impression that he is a pretty good fielder at 1st Base. Don’t know that he could handle the hot corner.

I Suspect It

Would be entertaining.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

No, but

if Hooch would just take JoGui golfing in the desert, it would be the best thing that ever happened to Kila’s career.

I've heard that

Kila is not a good fielder at 1B, which makes him at 3B the equivalent of Jose Guillen in RF

It's all ball bearings these days!
