just crazy

Well, it could always be worse, but this is something both Gordon personally and the team sure didn’t need. Wow.

Well, if you want the silver lining,

Callaspo gets a spot in the line up.

Seriously, is Gordon starcrossed?

by Dadunca on Mar 7, 2010 12:01 PM EST reply actions

He is totally jinxed

I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

by kcscoliny on Mar 7, 2010 12:08 PM EST reply actions

But

Does this also mean that because he doesn’t get to compete at the position during ST the spot automatically goes to Fields for Opening Day even if Gordon’s thumb is healthy?

by i before e except after Grrr on Mar 7, 2010 12:38 PM EST up reply actions

I doubt it

I think Moore and Hillman know that Gordon is much better than Fields, both offensively and defensively. I’d bet a lot that when he’s healthy, the job is Gordon’s. The talk about Gordon having to compete for the position was just rhetoric, imo.

i would bet

This starts him in AAA for about a month. Relieves the roster crunch.

Only if he's still injured throughout April

If you are suggesting that they will keep Gordon in AAA for the purpose of releiving the numbers crunch, you are way off. Look, I know this front office sucks, but they are consistent in valuing tools highly. They value tools over production. Gordon has disappointed to some extent with production, but his tools are spectacular. So why wood the most tools-loving front office in baseball relegate their player with the best tools to AAA?

I could see them taking their time, though.

It would be best to make sure he can take healthy swings before bringing him back. You really want him to start well this year. This sucks.

by BrRoyal on Mar 7, 2010 1:26 PM EST up reply actions

i just think

They will have him on the DL, so he starts in AAA to rehab. And the upside for DM is that he gets to delay the roster decisions.

by Juancho on Mar 7, 2010 12:15 PM EST reply actions

Yeah

I can’t justify giving him a 25 man roster spot out of Spring Training if he’s going to be injured for all of Spring Break outside of 3 games. Especially since he was hurt last year and not performing well.

Off to Omaha.

The one thing that sucks is that both Callaspo and Fields are awesome vs. LHP, but I have no confidence that Hillman will do the right thing there. Even with Gordon on the 25 man, there’s an argument to not have him start fulltime.

Ralph Wiggum would be a better GM than Dayton Moore

KC Star says he likely won't be ready for opening day

It is also likely Gordon will require a week or more to regain his timing once clear to return to action. That pushes his timetable past the April 5 season opener against Detroit at Kauffman Stadium.

I hate it when he (or any player) slides head first into first base

That might be the stupidest play in baseball for many reasons.

I thought I read he did it on the steal attempt

I'm not a sabermetrician, but I do play one at FanGraphs.

yeah...it was a steal

I was saying he’s always sliding headfirst into all bases…….he doesn’t discriminate.

Frank White talked numerous times last year about trying to break him of the habit when he was at AA. As you can see, old habits die hard.

by Fernando Vina School of Linguistics on Mar 7, 2010 6:04 PM EST up reply actions

I hate how he does it. There is an art to it.

Alex isn’t artistic in his head first slides. Make the guy go foot first. Maybe even back into first base on leads! Fine him big when he does go head first.

Sigh

More #Royals injury news: INF Jeff Bianchi to undergo Tommy John surgery. Out for the year. LHP Danny Duffy is limited by elbow problems.

What are they saying on Duffy?

Anymore info on him? And Bianchi is TJ? Injury bug on him too…

He'll Be A

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

Brett Had Similar

Problems. He was always dinged up from something he did in the field or on the basepaths.

The Curse of the 2005 Draft

That 1-2 should have cemented the left side of the infield into the middle of the decade. Instead, they have now collectively lost nearly 4 full seasons to injury. There comes a point when you have to wonder how some much—even what seems out of your control—can go so wrong.

That seems like a more appropriate name.
