Breaking News: Gordon Breaks Nose

In news out of Surprise today, Alex Gordon has sustained yet another injury that will delay his start to the season...

Star-divide

Alex Gordon just can't catch a break.    The much maligned 3B prospect for the Royals has suffered yet another injury in Surprise - this one due to his General Manager.

"I was just sliding around the infield just warming up, when Hillman called me over for a talk.   He asked me if I could deliver more homeruns this year than the latest GM ranking of Dayton Moore.   Given my trust in the process, I assumed he would at least be 15 or higher", Gordon said.

When Hillman revealed the #30 ranking, Gordon became lightheaded, passed out, and fell directly on his nose.

"I basically started doing some quick math and realized that 30 was unattainable, especially in 85 games".

Others on the club were surprised to hear of yet another injury to the starting third baseman.  A sampling of the reactions from other Royals:

"Sweet!" - Alberto Callaspo

"Man, talk about bad luck.   That guy has just had....did you see the Oscars last night....(singing) Still I look to find a reason, to believe" - Jason Kendall

"It is what it is.  Between Fields and Callaspo and Farnsworth and Guillen, we'll just have to find ways to fill in at third while he recovers.   It's unfortunate." - Trey Hillman

Club officials estimate that Gordon will be healed in fewer days than the amount of runs that non-Greinke pitchers give up per start this spring.   Vegas has that line in the low forties, putting Gordon's return sometime in mid-April.

Trey finds that only haiku can express his thoughts at this moment:

Sudden cries of pain
Chalk dust swirls unnoticed
In the warm Spring air.
