I was a bit surprised to see

nothing on the drop of Cruz and Mendoza and the promotion of Thompson and Chen. I have been busy but here is my small take:

Mendoza: Thank God he is gone! It was agony watching him. Dayton says he hopes he accepts a minor league assignment so don’t put him in your past just yet.

Cruz: I still thought he had a shot. Don’t get me wrong, he was sucking this year, but his strikeouts were getting higher and was not giving up bombs or anything. To say goodbye to $3 million + when he might not even be the worst guy on your team seems to be sudden and rash. He might be out of baseball-or we might be paying for him to get back on the right track for another team.

Chen and Thompson: REALLY!? I think we have seen what Chen can do, and Thompson is also somewhat of a retread. I cannot believe that we are not seeing what we have in Rosa or Hayes. We cut 3 people in an 8 man bullpen. Neither one of those guys is in the top 11 relievers? Child, Please!

He called you out, saying you were a punk and challenged you to a sabermetric duel.

Just kidding. He cited your F/X data on Meche’s command being off.

    Releasing Juan Cruz

    Newbie Comment

Hello from Oakland! A’s fan here that loosely follows KC as they are my future wife’s team and i am jealous of your yard.

We had Cruz for a bit and his electric stuff never translated to sustained success. Here is my question: why didn’t the Royals make him a starter? He seems to find more of a groove when he has time to find his mechanics and running him out of the bullpen, where his control must always be on, dosn’t seem like the best use.

by incarnate on Apr 26, 2010 12:10 PM EDT reply actions

    Because the Royals' rotation

is already filled with too much awesomeness.

Actually, for a good example of the Royals’ philosophy on reliever vs. starter and relative value see e.g., Soria, Joakim. If Soria isn’t getting a shot, then a guy like Cruz sure as hell isn’t.

Please help donate to erase Stephen Baldwin's debts

Now is the night he needs us the most.

    http://restorestephenbaldwin.org/

Q- What happened to his wealth?
A- When he became an outspoken Christian in 2002 his income went down by 70% when he refused roles with gratuitous sex and violence.

Q- How much money does he need?
A- From what I read in public court documents Stephen needs several million dollars to pay all of his creditors but he deserves hundreds of millions for his Job like faithfulness in the face of relentless loss and persecution.

Q- Why does Stephen need personal wealth?
A- Stephen’s influence is in Hollywood. Hollywood worships money and without it you are seen as a loser and cannot be an effective influence to this group.

    holy crap

that’s downright scary. Using his faith to profit? I think the reason he can’t work is b/c he sucks… not b/c there are tons of offers coming in with sex and violence.

    Messed Up.

How much has Dayton given to the fund?

What’s up everybody out there? Stevie B is rollin in the Lords Lounge in the name of Jesus and being a hardcore soldier for Christ has never been this much fun.

We started in New York and we’re on our way to California. We’ve already made stops at the Ichthus Festival in Wilmore Kentucky as well as the world series of video games in Louisville.

Thoughts on the Ryan Howard contract?

    http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/phillies/Howard_agrees_to_5-year_extensiob.html

5 years $125 million. That could be one albatross toward the end. But he should age well, what with the Subway diet and all.

The most generous assetment I can come up with after some tinkering

is that the Phillies overpaid by $40M

again, I think I’m being generous to the Phils with that

I'm not a sabermetrician, but I do play one at FanGraphs.

    From ESPN Game recap;

“Royals INF Chris Getz will begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Monday. He’s been on the DL since April 15 with a strained right oblique.”
