Today I will look at where the Royals players consider to be their own strike zones. Some data can be obtained at Fangraphs, if the batter swings at balls in and out of the zone.
I wanted to see where in and out of the zone the batter swings at pitches, in the dirt, high, inside. I went ahead and created heat maps looking at where player swings or doesn't swing at pitches, no matter the results. The following graphs show the total times swung at pitches (swinging strikes, fouls, in play ball) vs all pitches. The data is from 2007 to 2010 (within a couple of days).
The following are in order of starter, sub and Superman.
DeJesus
PodsednikButler
Guillen
Callaspo
Kendall

Ankiel
Betancourt
Maier
Pena
Bloomquist
Getz
Aviles
Zack "Superman" Greinke
A couple of notes:
- Since creating these, it is crazy seeing the number of high out of zone pitches Betancourt sees. Smart move by other team since he swings at near 60% of them.
- The better the hitter, the less red you see.
