OT: Make your 5 favorite player lists for my amusement.
I know this has been done before, but I am curious about the lists people would make on here. I'd like people to make three lists: top 5 favorite Royals of all time, top 5 favorite non-Royals of all time, top 5 favorite players that never (or barely) made it (or hasn't yet and probably won't). However, I have a caveat. I'd like the list to be made from your top 5 players ever at the peak of your feelings for them. For example, if Sweeney was your favorite player ever at any point, but you hate him now for injuries or something...you'd put him at #1. I know that feelings for certain players can vary quite a bit, but the peak value probably doesn't as much.
My lists are after the break.
In case you have trouble with your number 5: Go here
Top 5 Royals
--------------------------
1. Johnny Damon
2. Zack Greinke
3. George Brett
5. Bret Saberhagen
Top 5 Non-Royals (apparently GMDM and I both like former Mariners or Braves)
--------------------------
1. Steve Avery
2. Mark Lemke
4. Dave Magadan
5. Mike Lansing
// I also was a big fan of Lance Johnson (he was a triples hitter...which shouldn't exist)
Top 5 Scrubs
--------------------------
1. Ken Ryan // Dude had heat.
2. Lou Frazier // maybe the fastest baseball player ever
3. Joe Dillion // former Royal farmhand
4. Moonlight Graham // he saved that little girl from choking to death on a hotdog
5. Disco Hayes

Damn
I forgot about Johnson, can I offer an addendum to replace Fasano with DJ?
Strong was solid, but if I recall he got popped for roids once, I also sold him a six pack once, he was kind of arrogent. Those other guys were before my time, so I never really followed them.

5. A.J. Hinch
POD WILL EXPLOD!!!!1!!
I forgot Frank White
Put him in at #3 on my Royals list and demote Brett, since he’s kind of a dick and he gets plenty of praise all the time anyway.
POD WILL EXPLOD!!!!1!!
I forgot Hank Aaron too
He broke the record when I was eight and we all thought he was the greatest player ever. Probably not the greatest ever, but a damned fine player who’s got to be in my top ten.
POD WILL EXPLOD!!!!1!!
Scotty Pods (I’m on the bandwagon)
That might be an interesting discussion someday – guys who you sabermetrics told you should suck, but you liked them anyway?

Scotty Pods
doesn’t screw up in the outfield, has a good BA due to weak infield singles and OBP due to his walks, doesn’t spend much time on the DL. and has seven stolen bases out of eight attempts. Agreed, there are probably 20 better left fielders in the MLB, but you would think that us sabermetrics guys would say, “Yeah, it’s a fluke, he’s not really that good, but his stats sure look nice so far, even though the sample size is still small.”
POD WILL EXPLOD!!!!1!!
I'd play against Pods as the Reds did in the ´76 Series
Mickey Rivers’s game was based entirely on slap singles and drag bunts, followed by stolen bases. So the Reds moved the whole infield in, and stationed Pete Rose at third within 50 feet of home plate. Adiós Mickey.
POD WILL EXPLOD!!!!1!!
Royals:
1. Bo Jackson
2. George Brett (too young to realize he was a dick when I idolized him)
3. Brett Saberhagen
4. Flash Gordon

Honorable Mention: Jeff Conine (graciously signed an autograph for me at a AAA Toledo game when his arm was in a sling), Jim Eisenrich (he hit two home runs the first game I remember going to at Royals Stadium)

1. Steve Avery
2. Ken Griffey Jr.
3. Frank Thomas
4. Tim Wakefield
5. Andy Van Slyke

1) Harold Baines (not great, just very good – but so smooooooooooth…)
2) Greg Maddux
3) Rickey Henderson (the greatest leadoff hitter of all time – and somehow underrated)
4) E.T. McGee (I must really have liked him for a Cardinal to make this list!)
5) Adrian Gonzalez (if not for Pujols, this would be the best 1B in the game, and still relatively nobody would even know it)
Top 5 Scrubs/prospects:
1) Aviles (could vacate this list if he played for a real org that recognized his talent)
2) German (all-time king of the BAT FLIP!)
3) Hamelin

5) Offerman (prob not technically eligible here – but VERY underrated offensively)
"We're gonna win with pitching and defense" General Manager Dayton Moore, circa winter 2009
"Where did all these Indians come from?" General George Armstrong Custer, circa summer 1876
It was hard to narrow fav Royals to 5:
had to leave out many other favs, such as Tartabull, Seitzer, McRae, and Soria
"We're gonna win with pitching and defense" General Manager Dayton Moore, circa winter 2009
"Where did all these Indians come from?" General George Armstrong Custer, circa summer 1876
and I wish I coulda found room for Andres Blanco on the scrub list
Saw hit get HBP 3 times in a game at Omaha. (tied all-time record)
Still believe he would have been a better short-term solution at SS than going with TPJ, followed by Betancourt

oops!
that didn’t finish -
I wanted to say your definition of “scrub” varies from mine!

Probably...
I was looking for top 5 favorite players that didn’t make it professionally though. I think 1000 games means you made it.
"I DARE you to make less sense."
