I Need YOUR Help! - Royals History
Hey guys, I'm working on a speech I have to deliver tomorrow morning for my Public Speaking class about the history of the Royals. The problem is I can't find hardly any good "cite-able" sources. I'm especially looking for information on how the Royals came to be from the beginning. If anyone can find a good link or two, it would really help me out!
Thanks guys, if I'll let you all know how it comes out tomorrow!
Edit: I'm playing on bull$***ing some time by talking about some of the best players of all time. If you've got 5 or so players you think would be best for me to discuss, list them here too! Thanks again!

Sounds like your procrastination has gotten the better of you
I think you need some books. I’m guessing wikipedia won’t cut it?

Big surprise

The official team site
Has a history page here. It’s got a timeline of the entire history including the founding of the team. It’s pretty sparse, but it’s something.
It's all ball bearings these days!

Took the words right out of my mouth
They also have the history of the K on their official website. Baseball-almanac has histories of all the teams, also, so you can look at the Royals, A’s, Cowboys, etc.

Haha, I suppose it doesn't even have to be the top 5
Just 5 interesting players that were great who I’ll find good info on.

Can you go to your library website and get lexis-nexis through that?
Search the New York Times, KC Star and KC Times from the 60s for Kauffman and you ought to be able to get stuff you can cite.
Also, try the Kauffman Foundation. They have at least some stuff on how the he started the team.
"I think a tactical error might have been committed by the manager of the Royals"
And there's some free stuff from the NYT archive
http://query.nytimes.com/search/sitesearch?query=ewing+kauffman&more=date_all
"I think a tactical error might have been committed by the manager of the Royals"
I appreciate all the help guys!
My three main points will be:
A. Royals History
B. Notable Players
C. Where we are today
If anyone has a good tribute/history youtube clip
that I could open my speech with, that would also be great!

Sources
Other people have given you good sources. I’d add:
Lou Gorman’s biography can be found partially on Google Books (not the whole thing due to copyright issues). He was the Royals scouting director when they came into the league.
I’ve been meaning to do a write up on how the franchise came to be. From what I can remember reading, when the A’s were ready to leave town, Missouri Senator Stuart Symington, then a very powerful Senator, threatened to open anti-trust hearings on baseball if MLB let the A’s leave town. MLB, placating both Charlie Finley, who had wanted to leave Kansas City for years, and Symington, agreed to expand in 1969, with Kansas City being granted an AL franchise.
They needed an owner though and when no one stepped up, Ewing Kauffman took it as a civic cause and agreed to be the owner of the franchise.
The whole 1969 expansion is really interesting. Comissioner Ford Frick thought the leagues were expanding too quickly, but there was a bit of an arms race between the AL and NL to get into emerging markets. The AL originally didn’t want to expand until 1971, but Symington didn’t want KC without baseball for that long. Ultimately, that kinda doomed the other expansion franchises – Seattle didn’t have a stadium ready, and couldn’t get a stable ownership group, so they ultimately had to jet to Milwaukee after just one year. The quick process also probably cost Dallas or Milwaukee from putting together bids to top Montreal. Even Montreal was hurt by having to rush and almost lost their team to Buffalo early on.
And the rest is history and has brought us to this point – Victor Marte in a Royals uniform.

True
I think at one point in the early 70s Topps even released a set of cards with Padres players with “Washington” written at the bottom, in anticipation of the team relocating.
