The Royals were one strike away from a 1-0 victory, but will gladly take a 3-2 victory thanks to a two run 11th.
On a night when rowdy fans were chanting "Lets Go Tigers", the Royals turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 win in about four minutes. Alberto Callaspo homered, followed by an infield hit from Billy Butler. With Willie Bloomquist running, Ankiel doubled, and after a bobble, was able to score. Just like Hillman drew it up: get an infield single from the slowest guy in baseball, pinch-run with the Saint, get a double plus a bobble for the win.
Your winning pitcher? Kyle Farnsworth, who allowed a run nearly instantaneously in the top of the 11th.
- Until the 11th inning outburst, the Royals had managed only four hits, although they had collected five walks. In the bottom of the 7th, with two outs, Betancourt-Kendall-Getz went single-walk-single, producing a very unlikely run.
- I'd say Ankiel hasn't started off particularly great afield. In the 3rd inning he gifted with Tigers with a misplay that produced a triple. Thankfully, he redeemed himself at the plate at the end of the game.
- Luke Hochevar had a very nice night. Luke scattered just five hits and walked one in 7.2 innings, though he did strike out only two.
- On the whole, a huge comeback win for the Royals, who will likely be without the services of Soria tomorrow.
