Who will be the Royals Manager in 2011, regardless of when Hillman is fired or who the interim coach is in 2010? Choices are internal candidates or an external candidate to be named by you in the comments.John Gibbons - Royals Bench Coach
Hired by Blue Jays GM J.P. Riccardi in 2002, a minor league roommate, to be bullpen catcher. Worked his way up to first base coach, and eventually Manager of the Blue Jays, replacing Carlos Tosca in 2004 until his firing in 2008. MLB Mangerial Record: 305-305. Best finish: 2nd in AL East (2006) with an 87-75 record.
Controversial run-ins with players include chastising Dave Bush in the dugout after he showed displeasure for getting the hook in a game in 2005, challenged Shea Hillenbrand (allegedly) to a fight in July 2006, shoved Ted Lilly in August 2006, and friction with Frank Thomas in 2008 over playing time.
Ned Yost - Special Advisor to Dayton Moore
I think Yost is the real sleeper here. Everyone is talking about Gibbons, and maybe he is your interim manager. But Yost might be Moore's long-term solution. He was a bullpen coach and third-base coach for the Braves from 1991 to 2002. He managed the Brewers to start the 2003 season until he was (also) fired in 2008. MLB Managerial Record: 457-502. Best Finish: 2nd in NL Central in 2007 (83-79).
Main criticism against Yost centers around the Brewers blowing an 8.5 game lead in the division (the lead was held on June 23rd) and blowing a 4-game wild card lead in September 2008 to the Phillies.
Frank White - Royals Broadcaster
I don't think Frank has a snowball's chance with Moore, but he is a fan favorite and makes it on the poll. Managed AA Wichita Wranglers from 2004-2006 (is this correct?). That would have been a 218-200 record and a loss to the Corpus Christi Hooks in the 2006 Texas League championship series.
