does Matt K really
read and write obituaries in the Toronto area? Very interesting. My interest in obituaries somehow grew once I passed the age of 45.
Matt: I will be in Toronto this summer, so I may just have to buy you a drink, if you will allow me.

Maybe Paulo Orlando's brother plays for an M's farm team
I suppose if you squint there is a possible win-win trade, where the M’s buy some time before making the decision on whether to play for this year by giving up a non-prospect for a minor improvement at DH, and the Royals claim a victory by getting “something, anything” for Guillen, and freeing up playing time for younger players.
I would think Seattle would rather get someone who could play leftfield and move Bradley to DH. And considering defense and position, I’m not sure Guillen at DH would provide much an improvement over just playing good defenders like Langerhans or Saunders in LF until the Luke Scotts of the world become available in three or four weeks.
basically the conclusion I came to
although from what I hear, the Mariners have asked about Scott more than once, but can’t fit his salary in under their budget, and the Os, of course, aren’t willing to eat 75% of it or whatever.
My point was simply that it wasn’t as “off the charts” crazy as I thought it was when I first heard it; the Royals are already on the hook for Guillen’s whole salary, so they might as well eat it all if they have to for some marginal return back.
ON the other hand, the Mariners are a hop skip and a jump from being done for the season — not completely yet, but close, so why bother on their part, even if the Royals pick up the whole thing?

yeah, basically agree that is not likely but conceivable
The one way I could see the M’s doing this is that they have enough problems in addition to the DH right now, that they are not ready to make a big move that would cost them a real prospect or real money (either one could apply to Luke Scott). But if Guillen is basically free, they have nothing to lose by plugging him at DH for the next few weeks. if the team turns around and stays within reasonable distance of the Rangers (and maybe the A’s), the M’s could then make the investment in trading for a real fix. But if not, they can cut Guillen loose, play the kids, and start shopping Cliff Lee.

Prediction
Guillen traded to M’s. Dallas Braden takes the mound for the A’s against Seattle on August 9th. Milton Bradley steps on the pitching mound on the way back to first base after a foul ball. Braden runs his mouth to Bradley. Guillen and Bradley execute flawless Spike Piledriver on Braden on said pitching mound.
Maybe
Although I’m guessing they’ll go with “Total Elimination,” with Bradley tearing his MCL on the front sweep.

Guillen for Sweeney
would be so sweet, and so what if we have to eat $12M prorated?
Sween-Dog will hurt his back during the first walk-off celebration anyway.

but his hugs in the dugout will net the Royals at least a few more wins

Trying to fill LF too, so maybe we could package DDJ and Hoagy for Saunders and a live arm.

I'd say
Jose Guillen, Kyle Farnsworth, Jason Kendall, David Dejesus and Yuniesky Betancourt to the Seattle Mariners for
5 players of any position, and skill set, under 24.
Ring it up.
If we trade him back to Seattle
What would become of my $15 Marshall’s Guillen jersey I just picked up!
