"Alex expressed a lack of comfort at third and it was affecting his offense." -- Dayton Moore, when asked about Alex's move to left field.
The quote's a little ambiguous, but seems to imply that Gordon got moved off third at least in part because of his own lack of comfort fielding the position. Apologies if this was already posted somewhere.

This quote hinges on the word "expressed"
Did he tell someone that he didn’t feel comfortable at third. Perhaps, but I don’t think so. I believe that what Dayton meant to say was that Gordon showed a lack of comfort at third. And because he didn’t look comfortable there, they movbed him to third. But I think that is all spin. I think this has more to do with Callaspo and Moustakas than anything involving Gordon’s “comfort.”

I Agree, But
I would add Moore’s desire to improve MIF defense in the equation. True, Bert was a pretty awful 2B, and he has looked at least acceptable at 3B, but until Yu-Bet is benched/DFA’d he will not have addressed the situation. Aviles and Getz are a serious defensive upgrade over Yu-Bet and Bert, but I don’t see Getz as anything but a stopgap. And yes, Gordon “wanting” to move off 3B is bullshit.

Not too sure about that one, NYRoyal.
Josh Anderson and TPJ were allowed to move to pitcher, Ankiel was given center, Guillen was not moved to DH last year, and all those moves and others, did not make sense for the Royals either. The Royals seem to have something of a history now of letting players play wherever they want. I don’t think that reflects well on the Royals or makes the decision to move Gordon to left better. The players should not get to tell the Royals where they are going to play.
Go Royals!
I think they’d let him move to LF if he wanted it (given the other 3B options); I just doubt that he wanted. He’s been playing 3B full-time for several years. Why would he suddenly feel uncomfortable at the position. That just doesn’t make any sense. TPJ and Anderson wanted to try pitching because they had failed dismally as position players and needed something, anything to maybe save their baseball careers. Ankiel wanted to play CF because that is the position he’d been playing and likes most. Why would Gordon not want to play third base? It is possible, but it doesn’t make any sense.

Why is Jared Saltalamachia
no longer able to throw the ball back to the pitcher? He’s caught full-time for several years. Why would he suddenly feel uncomfortable at the position?
This story seems like it has the potential to be spin, but it can’t be dismissed as ridiculous either (IMO)
BOOM! ROASTED!
Needs a little coaching from
Jake Taylor Jason Kendall.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.
Anything I've heard and seen
down in Rangerland makes it sound like a legit case of the yips. He just lost it somehow.
I’m gonna dig around for some good Salty posts from one of their blogs, it seems he could be their Gordon. They expected him to be a legit hitter from day one, and the last season plus they’ve thrown any catcher they can in front of him. My memory says he’s sucked, but would be interesting to see if he’s suffering from not hitting like Tex more than just plain not hitting.
Could be along the same lines as Teahen's (temporary) move to 2B
The team essentially told the player, we know your favorite position is 3B, but if you want to see the field, it’ll be in the outfield. So they had 2 choices: Express an interest in moving, or ride the pine.

Contra Rick Ankiel
“You can play whatever position you want, despite your inability to have much value as a hitter.”

How about the ball he took off the face?
“Not comfortable” could be a euphemism for “gun-shy” (and/or “scared”).

I Played 3B
My whole time in organized ball, and I do think that play could have affected him. His UZR went from +8 in ’07 to -7 in ’08. That could be due to injury, too, as our crack medical staff probably let him play hurt the second half of ’08 until surgery was necessary in ’09.

Not to mention
He was brought up playing 3rd with a cast on his hand and most of his errors were throwing errors, having a 3b with a cast on seemed ridiculous to me
