Tim Dierkes posted this yesterday on MLB Rumors. com.
I had a feeling this would get more RR attention but here is the trade idea.
- Perez and $10.5MM to the Royals for Jose Guillen and Kyle Farnsworth. Guillen is owed $8.2MM, Farnsworth $3.6MM. This scenario has the Mets taking on $2.1MM to acquire Guillen and Farnsworth, about $550K of which covers what the Royals might get after releasing the two players
More on this after the jump.
The Royals cannot make the fans believe that Jose Guillen deserves to be in the lineup everyday. Everyone here on RR has said, and I firmly believe that the Royals would improve by subtraction.
Oliver Perez is a left handed pitcher with potential, a bad contract and control problems. A fresh start in a small market would probably do Perez some good, and a trade would facilitate Perez' demoting to AAA, at least for 2 starts.
Farnsworth has been pretty good for Kansas City, no doubt, but has been largely underused in potential win situations.
So, do the Royals make this trade?
