On Meeting Dayton Moore
Another shameless self-share, in case you missed it on Twitter and whatnot. In short - I met GMDM. It didn't go well. I used words in a blog post to kick myself.

When you said "didn't go well"
I was wondering how you were posting from jail.
I am now channeling Will McDonald's optimism.
You were just...
…being polite. First time meetings are for niceties. Next time you can go right at him. – TL

GMDM said all the right things in his pregame interview at Omaha.
He said that Kila is definitely in their plans and with Alberto at 3rd they needed to find a position for Alex who is also definitely in their plans. He said he still believed in Alex and we’ll see that he will still become a great player.
If Kila is in the plans then I can’t blame them for making Alex move positions. I think Alex is quicker and faster than Alberto and could probably handle the outfield better than Alberto long term.

I would probably be the same, or worse around Dayton
I still get a bit intimidated by “famous” people.

Did you mean...
…infamous?! :) – TL

As for the whole Gordon to LF thing,
I understand the move totally – but think it should have been the plan since the very day they acquired Getz. They knew Getz was gonna be the everyday 2B, they should have known that they intended to keep Callaspo’s bat in the lineup somewhere, and that 3B was likely where, so why not announce immediately that Gordon would be switching to LF in spring training?

Moore's Brilliant Offseason
Acquisitions have jammed up the OF for this season. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Gordon’s “development” take most if not all of 2010. Podz and Rocky must play. Maybe he’ll trade DDJ at the deadline, but I doubt it.
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

It seems at times Dayton is too afraid to make a move until more things have become apparent
which just makes it looks like he second guesses himself to the point that it looks like he is making desperate moves
I hope it is some where in the middle….but…….?

Possible thought process
They may not yet have been sold on whether Alberto could actually handle 3B long-term. If not, they still shouldn’t be, I guess… but he hasn’t shown any sign of being unable to handle it thus far, which probably pushed them over the edge and made the decision for them.

Honestly
you’d have to be kind of an asshole to call him out while he’s sitting at his organization’s highest farm club. Yeah, some people might sit here and say they would’ve done it but let’s face it, this isn’t New York, we’re Mid-westerners and we treat people well. Cool that you got to meet him, though.

Very true
If you had just lauched into berating him, I’m sure you would have gotten the cold shoulder. Even if you had tried to engage him in a detailed, well-reasoned, calm conversation about why you disagreed with one or all of his moves, or his general philsophy, I’m sure he would have moved on quickly, too. People, even public figures, don’t normally expect to be engaged in a vigorous debate with someone who views them negatively in the first 10 seconds of conversation. And when it does happen, they tend to get the hell out of the situation as soon as possible.
Maybe you could have tried the Bill Lumbergh approach: “Hey, Dayton, what’s happening? Say, you know that baseball team you’re trying to build? Yeeaaah, I’m gonna have to go ahead and sort of disagree with you on your general philosophy and the moves you’ve made there. Mmmmkay? So, if you could just move your desk down to Sub-Basement B, that would be great, mmmkay? Great.”

I like that...
…second paragraph. At least you didn’t twist the fictional conversation into Peter’s dream sequence with Lumbergh.

maybe something along the lines of
“How about that Kila kid, he can really hit, huh?”
a perfectly veiled jab.

Very enjoyable piece of writing
Well done.
And don’t feel bad about not calling him out. There’s no way you would’ve felt good about it afterward. You’d either have wished you’d laid out your arguments differently (if he argued back) or you’d have felt bad about being a jerk (if he was nice). You’re not a mean person. Be glad of it.
"I think a tactical error might have been committed by the manager of the Royals"
The best I could have mustered
would be a sarcastic comment like:
“Heh, Dayton. How’s that Process going?”

"Where did all these Indians come from?" General George Armstrong Custer, circa summer 1876
I'm pretty sure that's about what everyone would do.
I wouldn’t feel too bad about it. If you go for shots, you’re a jerk, so you did the right thing.
