Royals Beat Cardinals 4-2, Zack's Shutout Broken up by Kendall in the 9th

Great job by the team tonight.  8 shutout innings by Zack.  The offense got some extra base hits and scored more runs in this game on 10 hits than against Washington on 30 hits.

Catcher interference by Jason Kendall in the ninth turned a no one on base 1 out to 1 person on base 0 outs.   Jason got on base 3 times tonight and hatred was waining just a bit and then he goes and just the catcher interference.

Great win against the red birds.

Well I am off for the weekend.  Someone else should be doing the game threads and Go USA.

I can't remember the last time

I’ve gotten such a bad vibe from a win.

Any win is a good win,

but a W against the Cards gives me ammo against the legion of Cardinals fans I hang out with.

That's a great pic, Jeff. No doubt.

Thoughts:

1) Always nice to beat the Cards. Let’s sweep the bastards. Kyle Davies tomorrow….okay, well let’s take two of three anyway.

2) How many 10-hit games have the Royals had this year? A lot, it seems for a team 12 games below .500. How is that possible? Oh, yeah, Kansas City Royals.

not only are they the greatest fans in the world

I'm just glad we...

…made Tony LaRussa scowl. I mean, the guy smiles so much.

Shoot fellers

don’t look now but the never say die Royals are only 9.5 back all of the sudden.

We might just fuck around and win the Central.

Watching the Cardinal feed

Is it just me, or do others think LaRussa always looks like he just came from doing coke off the lid of toilet in the postgame interviews?

Woo! Four runs!
The offense got some extra base hits and scored more runs in this game on 10 hits than against Washington on 30 hits.

This makes it seem like they scored so many runs tonight.

16-2 groundouts/flyouts following 14-2 last time. Zack is really getting the ball down lately. I <3 the mechanical change.

I was mildly surprised that, in the presser

Edgar omitted Bort from his list of players who showed up offensively.

Nonetheless, I hope Bort’s turning the corner again.

Went to the game

Somewhat surprisingly (based on a few previous experiences) almost all of my interactions with Cardinals fans were positive. I heard several of them raving about the ballpark and only one guy was the typical overly smug know-it-all who whined about Denkinger. Most of the ones around me stood and applauded with the KC fans when Greinke went out.

That said, I enjoyed the hell out of watching them grimace in pain when they couldn’t manage to bring anybody home for the first 8 innings. Loved that Zack won most of his battles with Pujols and any time you can beat legendary former Royals like Jeff Suppan and Jason LaRue…well, I don’t have to tell you how special that was…

DAMNIT!!! I missed a good one...

I was following the game on mobile gameday and was curious if everyone’s head exploded when Greinke came out for the 9th?

Where's the guy who said Zack was going to get crushed?

I want to let him off the hook: Zack really should pitch left-handed versus the scrubs NL.

I'm not a sabermetrician, but I do play one at FanGraphs and Beyond the Box Score.
