Royals, Chen and Kendall shame the Cardinals 10-3 and take the series
Turns out Jason Kendall got the start after all. Consider me shocked. And then he went 3-5 with two doubles and four RBI. Baseball is a crazy game. Bruce Chen worked through some trouble, but continued to look like an ok fifth starter. We'll see how long that lasts. Pods, Guillen, Betemit and Bloomquist also had good games. Looks like it was a good day for the Royals you love to hate. Well, a win is a win. And taking a series from the Cards is extra sweet.

Royals take the series against the Cards?
Kind of reminds me of 1985.
he's a solid sub
and offensive player IF used correctly- versatile, has some pop and runs better than you think
Reasonable Assessment

he's a cheap version of Bloomquist
less defensive value, more offensive value. They’re both around replacement level. One of them is on an appropriate contract.

Jason Kendall's batted balls found daylight today
another six weeks of starts for him!

Not a coincidence, I suspect, that Kendall's batted well last two games
And also did not play the previous day both times.

really excited
Hate the cards, so that was great. Even better that we bounced back from the losing streak to take 2 of 3. Jougi for prez, kendall for vice!

Linda Cohn taking a shot at Pujols on Sportscenter
She called him out for standing and watching his homerun, which cut their deficit to a meager 5 runs.

That's awesome.
Similar to the annoyance I experience when a football player celebrates his exceptional play when his team is down 28-3

Of good but expected of a pro play.

Thanks For Stopping
By and the good wishes. Unlike many on this site, I have no ill will toward the Cards, but every team has some obnoxious fans. I’m the same way with Mizzou. I’m for them until they play a Kansas school, but some of their fans get carried away.

KC A's retro night on the 17th
that should be traumatic, although the blue/white retro caps look nice.
time to post celebration pics!

also, this series was the first time Pujols hit .200 or under at Kauffman Stadium since 2004

He Was Good
In April, great in May and mediocre in June: .276 .312 .448 .760. His BABIP is down to .297 for June; it was .354 in April and .371 in May, so I suppose he was due to come back down some. I’m not worried yet. He launched a ball to the CF wall yesterday and hit one off the wall down the RF line today, but it was just foul.

OT But...
Did anyone see Longoria and Upton’s fight today? Longoria has taken over that team. Upton loses points for the “Now that someone’s between us, I’m really mad!” People that don’t play hard shouldn’t play the game.
I've always thought BJ was kind of a punk. But I like Justin.
I have no idea why I feel this nor do I have anything to back it up.
Summary: I wish Longoria would have kicked his ass.
Stuck following the Royals since 1976.
I thought it was funny
that BJ backed up his loafing by getting picked off at first base in his next AB, then hit a deep fly ball that he obviously thought was a homer only to be caught at the wall to end the game. They look like they’re in deep shit as a team. The Yanks are blowing right by them right now and so will the Red Sox when DDJ gets there.

Any day the Royals beat...
…the Cards is a good day—-no matter which particular players contributed. And any series and weekend the Royals take 2 of 3 from the Cards is a spectacular weekend. Congrats to Yost, Greinke, Chen, Kendall, and DDJ. Great stuff. – TL

I see Offerman’s name on any kind of list. I just remember calling him “Awfulman” while he was with the Royals. I got super pissed the year he led the team in BA because I figured he would never leave.

Man,
It seems like all of our guys have their value tied to their AVG. Mike, Pods, Yuni. Crazy.
Obviously, it's all part of The Process.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

yeah
he probably has a little more power, but the average will go down. He’s a .280/.310/400 kind of player. Which really only plays at SS.
(sigh)
Yet he’s the best option for SS, easily. Again, when we’re justifiably mad that guys like Aviles and Maier are getting buried, GOOD JOB ON THAT ROSTER

glad we took 2 of 3
but it doesn’t exactly inspire me that it was a bunch of retreads that did it…but, a win is a win i guess, we can’t have billy, bert, david, zack and soria be the heroes every night.

also
i know that this isn’t scientific, but so far our WAR is 12.1 over roughly half the season, which would put us at about 35 wins, somewhat close to our actual of 32…i seem to recall that last year there was a huge disparity between the two, which I’m guessing has to do with catcher defense and baserunning, both of which i believe are improved over last year…

I'm guessing it has to do with the amazingly high BA
and somewhat to do with defense.

"Bruce Chen...continued to look like an OK 5th starter"
Actually, with Hochevar out, he looks like a # 2 starter on this pathetic staff.
Not actually disagreeing with you, NY – just pointing out what has been an utter disaster this season – the starting rotation. I just can’t get past my disappointment in it, especially since
the front office spent the entire offseason saying we were gonna win with pitching and defense.
If they had been correct, considering our offense (somehow) has been league avg all year, and considering how mediocre the division has been, we would have actually been in contention.
"We're gonna win with pitching and defense" General Manager Dayton Moore, circa winter 2009
"Where did all these Indians come from?" General George Armstrong Custer, circa summer 1876
Final Interleague record
AL wins 134-118
The closest since 2004, but still a very comfortable AL victory.
When will Davies just go away?
I kind of like this Lerew kid, and Zack’s really starting to look good. You’d think that we’d figure out a way to put Banny on a floating schedule to maximize daytime starts, and I’m ok with Chen right now. He got really lucky early on yesterday, but has looked ok even in his last couple of losses. I just can’t stand Davies anymore. I don’t want him anywhere near the bullpen or Omaha for that matter. Let’s give him Thompson’s address and send him wherever that guy is.
