David DeJesus Trade Speculation

There are several teams that have expressed interest in DeJesus.  With the season DeJesus is having and the value he could provide to a team in contention, it seems likely that teams will be willing to part with a top prospect in order to get DeJesus.  The teams currently rumored to be asking the Royals about DeJesus are Boston, San Francisco, San Diego and Atlanta.  I wanted to take a look at their minor league systems to see who would be a possible return for DeJesus.

Looking at the top ten Baseball America prospects for each of the four teams, the Braves and Red Sox seem to be able to offer the most potential value in return.

1. Jason Heyward, of
2. Freddie Freeman, 1b
3. Julio Teheran, rhp
4. Mike Minor, lhp
5. Craig Kimbrel, rhp
6. Christian Bethancourt, c
7. Randall Delgado, rhp
8. Zeke Spruill, rhp
9. Cody Johnson, of
10. Adam Milligan, of

Heyward, Freeman, Teheran and Minor seem unlikely to be moved.  The Braves have unbelievable pitching depth in the minors (what a surprise) so it seems likely that we could get one of either Randall Delgado or Arodys Vizcaino in return for DeJesus.  If you pair one of those pitchers with Cody Johnson who is a masher in the Adam Dunn mold who hits a ton of homers but also strikes out a ton, I think that would be a good return for DeJesus.

1. Ryan Westmoreland, of
2. Casey Kelly, rhp
3. Josh Reddick, of
4. Lars Anderson, 1b
5. Ryan Kalish, of
6. Junichi Tazawa, rhp
7. Reymond Fuentes, of
8. Anthony Rizzo, 1b
9. Jose Iglesias, ss
10. Derrik Gibson, ss/2b

Westmoreland, Kelly and Iglesias have amazing talent.  One of those 3 would be an amazing return for the Royals but that is unlikely to happen.  A return of Reddick or Kalish plus a pitcher like Felix Doubront or Stolmy Pimentel could be a decent return for DeJesus.

San Diego

1. Donavan Tate, of
2. Simon Castro, rhp
3. James Darnell, 3b
4. Jaff Decker, of
5. Logan Forsythe, 3b
6. Cory Luebke, lhp
7. Wynn Pelzer, rhp
8. Everett Williams, of
9. Edinson Rincon, 3b
10. Aaron Poreda, lhp

To me its all about Jaff Decker and Donavan Tate in the Padres system.  If we get one of them then its a good return.

San Francisco

1. Buster Posey, c
2. Madison Bumgarner, lhp
3. Zack Wheeler, rhp
4. Thomas Neal, of
5. Dan Runzler, lhp
6. Tommy Joseph, c
7. Roger Kieschnick, of
8. Ehire Adrianza, ss
9. Brandon Crawford, ss
10. Francisco Peguero, of

For San Fran, 2 of the 3 of Wheeler, Neal and Kieschnick would offer a nice return.

So...  Where is David DeJesus likely to be playing come August 1st?
