Brett, Watson, and...Limbaugh?

Yea
He is like BFF w/ that crazy hate monger. It’s a damn shame. On a side note, I guess Rush, in a rare display of hypocrisy had a gay man, Elton John perform. No word on whether or not he beat him to death because god wanted him to immediately after his performance.
BOOM! ROASTED!
i though
we avoided politics on this site?
regardless obviously you guys have never listened to his show.

I have listened and
GoBabies got it exactly right. Haven’t listened for a couple of years though so I'm sure he's changed.
the hate of Rush
is far worse than the hate by rush. Perhaps that “hate monger” label goes to the mirror.
You should also note that Rush worked for the Royals directly and for local radio stations before he went national.

I'll be fair and balanced
Rush Limbaugh = Michael Moore. Two massive ecogmaniacal demagogues who push extremist ideologies for the sole purpose of personal aggrandizement and who care nothing about the truth. Their rhetoric has no boundaries. They have never heard of good taste or propriety. And there is no lie they wouldn’t tell to promote their cause themselves.

ummm......not exactly......
last I checked, Rush Limbaugh is on the air everyday, for the past 20 years, Michael Moore has released a couple of three movies. Furthermore, the Limbaugh “truthiness” includes gems about how the Clinton’s had Vince Foster killed, and, much like the BP oil leak, a seemingly endless supply of misinformation and vindictiveness on a variety of topics from the economy, to environmentalism, that support the interests of big business and the wealthy (cloaked in the guise of pull yerself up by your bootstraps individualism). Moore, to the contrary, despite whatever claims of “foul” have been lodged against him, is generally sticking up for the little guy, i.e., the vast majority of us making less than 250k in this country. To compare Moore’s transgressions to Limbaughs is like comparing a popcorn fart to Hurrican Katrina. Saying they are equivalent is lunacy that leaps beyond the ideological differences of right vs left, and descends directly into the void of not knowing jack squat of what you speak.

I described the ways in which they are very similar. I didn’t say they have the same job. I didn’t say they have the same exposure. What I said is that they do the same kinds of things in the same way. And I believe they both value themselves higher than any cause or ideology. Look, I’m as liberal as they come. But Moore does a horrible disservice to the left.

I thought it was pretty well known that George and Rush are friends
That goes back to Rush’s days working for the Royals. I don’t like Rush but I don’t see what the big deal is. Some of my friends are pretty conservative and we get along just fine.
Relive Royals History at royalsretro.blogspot.com
That's correct
Rush has (in his books, at least) spoken very warmly of his friendship with the Royals he worked with, and George Brett in particular.
Brett could certainly do worse. Whatever you think of Rush Limbaugh’s politics, the guy is funny and articulate. He’d probably be amongst the top 10 most engaging dinner guests in the USA.
Chaim Mattis Keller New York City's # 1 Royals fan!
But the thing is, politics aside, Rush Limbaugh seems like an arrogant, egotistical jerk. But I guess Brett likes that.

the irony is
that this fanshot contains more raw hatred than I’ve ever heard on Rush’s show. Those that cant compete with ideas, use labels to marginalize.

I'm staying away from the ideas
We really shouldn’t be getting into a political debate here. I commented on his personality, style and manner. I describe him honestly. Is that using labels to marginalize? There’s no need to insult me with your “those who can’t compete with ideas” BS. No one is insulting you. You don’t need to take comments about Rush Limbaugh personally.

i spent a lot of years as a karaoke host/dj. I introduced my daughter to one of the semi-regulars that I knew. Theyve been married 3 years now. I take exception to the inference that Brett = Rush = Evil. Intelligent minds can and should disagree. That’s where ideas come from. However to label the others motives as evil is just plain wrong.
Mom A feeds her kids liver ever tuesday. She believes it is good for them, and she wants to do what is best for them.
Mom B never gives her kids liver. She believes it is nasty, knows they wont eat it, and would rather give something that they will eat. She feels that is what is best for them.
The fact is that both are right and both are wrong. Or one is right and the other is wrong, or vice versa.
I would be wrong or either mom to hate the other mom and tell friends that she hates her children.

People dislike Rush because he is an asshole (or at least acts like one on his show)
It’s not about his “ideas”. There are plenty of intelligent, articulate conservative commentators with views similar to Rush that don’t engender the disdain that Limbaugh does. His persona is an act. He is an entertainer. The whole point of his show is to make money, and he makes so much of it by intentionally being inflammatory and controversial. People are angered by his demeanor far more than his politics.
by KCBear on Jun 7, 2010 10:53 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions
In other words
It’s not about whether or not you feed your kids liver. It’s about presenting the false dichotomy of being either a real, patriotic American that eats liver on Tuesdays or a sniveling socialist without the backbone to show your kids what’s right.

pretty much
I remember hearing during the last election “the only reason a person would not vote for Obama is that they are racist” uhhhh or 1000 other reasons,
Similarly if a person drives a van or a suburban they must hate the planet. I couldnt possibly that they have 5 kids and otherwise would have to take 2 cars everywhere they go.
People have reasons for doing things, right or wrong, that you agree with or dont.. But generally they arent doing them out of evil or hatred. They might be right, wrong, have false information, or make false assumptions, but it doesnt make them evil.

That is certainly true. But do you realize that Rush Limbaugh, who you appear to think is an idea man, engages in the kind of rhetoric that you are complaining about? It is his stock in trade.

Rush is a big boy
I dont care who agrees with or disagrees with him. It’s one thing to say his show is insulting, offensive hyperbole, another to make an accusation such as that.
As a conservative I also get painted with the standard cliche labels. Thus my annoyance. A couple of weeks ago a “friend” made a “joking” reference that I must support the KKK since I am not a fan of Obama. There is no line of logic, no matter how jagged, that bears that out.

So it’s ok for Limbaugh to be insulting, offensive and hyperbolic, but it’s not ok for someone to say something insulting, offensive and hyperbolic about him? Sure, it is sinking to his level, but what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

I can't believe you aren't getting this
Limbaugh hasn’t advocated the beating death of a gay man. I didn’t say Limbaugh calls for violence. What I said was that you are correct that the above comment you’ve been referencing is insulting, offensive and hyperbolic. And Limbaugh is insulting, offensive and hyperbolic on his show everyday. If it is ok for him to be that way on his show, why isn’t it ok for GoBabies to talk that way? Or, if what GoBabies said is horrendous and should be rejected, shouldn’t Limbaugh’s insulting, offensive, hyperbolic program be rejected as well?

I get it just fine
I don’t see any comparison between Limbaugh’s schtick and that comment. Its one thing to call someone a jerk, another to accuse them of advocating murder.
Your logic is that “since i dont like the stuff Rush says, I can make up lies about him” Fail
~~~if there is one thing i absolutely know for sure its... ummmm uhhh.... uhhh
Wow, you're amazing
What am I making up about Limbaugh? He’s intentionally insulting, offensive and hyperbolic everyday, right? The thing another poster said about him advocating beating gays was not a serious accusation.
But you know who has made serious accusations about conspiracy to commit murder? Rush Limbaugh. He has accused both Hilary and Bill Clinton of being involved in a conspiracy to murder Vince Foster and Ron Brown. So is that ok? Get it now?
never said
you made anything up. Never said you should like him or agree with him.
I only say, if you hate him or his show, hate based on things he SAYS or DOES, not some fictional desire to kill gay people. Does that not seem fair? If he is really that evil there should be plenty of factual stuff that one doesnt have to make stuff up.
I don’t recall much at all about clinton/foster/brown era. I was busy raising kids.
For the record, Rush Limbaugh does this. He doesn’t just say that he disagrees with liberals. He mocks, ridicules, and insults them. He does his best to debase and degrade them. He often describes them (and anyone on the left, including essentially every Democrat) as unpatriotic, traitorous and unAmerican. Extremist demagogues like Limbaugh and Moore live on demonizing the people they disagree with. It’s called “eliminationist rhetoric” and that kind of thing from both sides is making reasonable compromise and progress in our political system more difficult with each passing day.
I'm really disappointed that this thread was allowed to exist.
Just this week a thread was written that was critical of Obama talking about Baseball instant replay. It was shut down. Why is a political thread critical of a conservative allowed to continue?
It's a vast left-wing conspiracy
But, I don’t care if the thread exist. Limbaugh is a big boy. I don’t feel the need to defend him. I just think the same is true of Obama. If we are going to engage in belittling personal attacks of political figures then I think Obama deserves his day in court.
