If it did I"m sure less people would complain than they do about the status quo

Everyone who bashes Kendall..... he is a damn good catcher. Very smart behind the plate. He has great BAT CONTROL, which makes him a good top of the order hitter.

I am surprised to learn that you were not joking about Brandon Inge being in a HR Derby

The only more surprising thing was that Brandon Inge was actually named to an All-Star Game.

MLB needs to revamp the HR Derby

The number of HRs should continue over from the previous round. It seems odd that the guy who hits the most HRs does not necessarily win the derby, but rather the guy who hits the most in the final mini-round.

And the first round takes so long, it would be better to just go to the final round with the top 3 or so, and give them another 10 outs.

And, yes, the biggest improvement would be axing Chris Berman.

by Gopherballs on Jul 12, 2010 8:09 PM EDT reply actions

I like this comment from the Fangraphs post on what the Rays should do:
I think the Rays need two pieces. They need a RH hitting DH with pop. The most economical and wise move would be to trade for Jose Guillen for a decent(not great) B prospect. The experiment of trying to force a position player into that slot failed miserably with Burrell. Guillen is comfortable with that role and brings veteran leadership to the team. If the Rays get serious they could go after Fielder to DH this year and play 1st base next year. They can afford the 5 million left for him this season and by letting Pena and probably Crawford leave for FA, they can afford a 14 million arbitration year for Prince to play 1st base next year.

Get that to their management!

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

OT: I assume most Royals fans at least have some roots to the Kansas City area

If you don’t, you should probably get medicated or something, because you are crazy.

That being said, what NBA team do you root for? And please, don’t say “I hate the NBA.” Because that will set off a large argument for me.

My answer to the question? The Twolves. I got hooked on Garnett after seeing him play in Denver a few times, and (stupidly) stayed with them after he moved on to the Celtics. That’s right, my three favorite teams are the Royals, Chiefs, and Twolves. Needless to say, I’m a pretty tortured fan.

I hate the NBA

BUT If I have to pick some teams…

I really only pull for former Jayhawks. So I hav ebeen pulling for Boston lately, and I hated the Bulls when MJ was there, but Hinrich was my favorite player ever… So I guess maybe Washington. Though Im kinda coming around to Ok City, and I kinda follow Portland because my brother worked for them for a while.

C'MON CHEN!!! ---Will Ferrell

by averagegatsby on Jul 12, 2010 8:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Ya since the Twolves suck, after they quickly become irrelevant, I start rooting for players too.

So I rooted for the Celtics because of KG/ Pierce. I also like Hinrich because he’s an Iowa guy and I went to college in Iowa. But living in Wichita, I get Thunder games now, so I’m becoming a fan of them. I saw Durant play at the fieldhouse, and he was awesome.

And players’ careers culminate in college, but when I do pay attention I follow the Bucks. Grew up by Madison and just saw more of their games than anyone else.

is the HR derby the only "event" tonight

or was there a “Celebrity” Softball Game earlier featuring the guys who read the ticker on ESPNews and the guy who plays the Geico Caveman (not the main guy, but his buddy)?

If this is it, the warm up act should be a HR derby with the pitchers. They could even bring in a shorter fence for them.

A full 4% of people that responded to an ESPN poll

think the Indians or the Royals will win the Central. That’s 11% of responders from MO and 12% from Ohio. Hope abounds!

For the prospects not becoming superstars. For the Yankees winning the WS. For BP’s oil fiasco. For the recent hot weather. He’s pretty much Satan. Or Santa, depending on how you spell it, but Satan makes more sense.
