At least admit that your pimping your own blog

You’ve only joined three SB Nation sites, and all three of your posts are pimping your blog!

Yeah, I figured it was obvious that I was promoting my own blog — screen name and the blog name are identical.

While I did feel a little weird joining that Nationals blog just to post my link, I actually do read Royals Review and Arrowhead Pride everyday. I just thought maybe other readers here might enjoy a little Royals satire… aside from the team itself.

No biggie

Just be up front about it.

My thoughts..

If you are going to drop the name “The Onion” in a comparison…you better be able to live up to it.

Spungo.com doesn’t, but I could see it. This blog actually seems more like a forum type post than a blog or satire news-story…

Just going off the top of my head, try these:

1. Cleveland fans start sending open letters to Cavs owner, begging him not to send more open letters.
2. Lance Armstrong decides to remove his remaining testicle to shave off time in Tour De France
3. Steinbrenner arrives in Hell…Immediately seeks out Billy Martin and fires him.
4. King LeBron, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh have sleepover. Tell spooky stories, and have pillow fights. They then get asked if they want to see a dead body. Queue Ben E. King and Kiefer Sutherland.
5. Brett Favre practicing throwing to high school kids. Prosthetic hands in demand, after being clipped off the kids.
6. Terrell Owens announces teams see him as troublemaker. Still coming to terms with sky being blue and water being wet.
7. Lawrence Taylor changes plea. Claims teenage crack addict raped him.
8. Papelbon to ask Rand-McNally for assistance to prove he does indeed know where the strike zone is. Next week, plans to ask help from funeral caretakers to prove on CNN hes knows his ass from a hole in the ground.
9. John Rocker: “Hey, I’m still alive you know. Fuck Mel Gibson…”
10. San Diego Chargers fans mock World Cup fans over the use of the vuvulela..“We have the most annoying thing in our stadium each year. Raiders fans.”

See just a few samples of how to make current topics into possible comedy gold. Again, now bashing you…just some constructive criticism.

True, but everyone has made that joke

pretty much as soon as they heard Steinbrenner was dead. For a comedy web site to be successful, it’ll have to come up with something better than the obvious.

Constructive criticism is fine, that’s part of the reason for sharing my blog. B what doesn’t live up to The Onion — the Spungo name, or the content? And how is that particular story lacking newsy elements that would separate it from being a random forum post?

The blog is just a little exercise in expanding my writing portfolio, nothing more. I’m not trying to start my own brand to compete with The Onion, and aside from the SB Nation blogs and Facebook, I don’t promote it as such.

I was assuming some here would take issue with my condemnation of Yuni and Guillen, not my blog as a whole. Appreciate the feedback, though.

No sweat.

The site itself looks like it could be a hit, with an onset of writers using wit, a little more…uh…colorful (its ok to say fuck, shit, dick etc)..and try to centralize the site into segments like a newspaper. News, Finance, Sports, Entertainment. It seems like they are all jumbled up.

I didn’t have issue with your blog/post persay, just that it was pretty much the subject of a movie already, so when I click the link, or someone else does they will think the exact same thing. The subject of the blog/post was fictional, thus immediately making the story just that…a story, not a “news-byte” spoof..

I did like the “signing their release papers” part, but outside of that…there was no being “bitten” by the story/post/blog…in my terminology..“bitten” means having a something so funny you feel “bitten” so you have to go spread it. If i read a newsstory or a blog that “bites”…i go tell my friends about it on my smoke break..

“guys, i just read this awesome thread”…see? i got bitten and now i am spreading it around..

in closing, to us Royals fans…a story about the owner dying would be met with glee, jubilation, even if a kid DID take over the team…long as Glass is out. Shoulda made the kid a prick who fans immediately hated, and wanted run out of town …(come on, can’t wish death on a kid!)

by KennyPowers_from_Scout on Jul 13, 2010 7:09 PM EDT reply actions

Actually, part of the joke is that the article does mirror the 1994 movie Little Big League, except the kid in my article is much more baseball savvy and actually makes moves to change the team for the better — something neither the kid in the movie, or the Royals, have really done.

And I’m not trying to compete with The Onion or start my own brand, the blog is just a simple way for me to show off my writing ability.

Anyway, maybe you’ll like some of the other articles or graphics better. Thanks for the comments.

Just make it longer

It’s too short to be funny. Even if what was there was packed with funny shit.

Everyone who bashes Kendall..... he is a damn good catcher. Very smart behind the plate. He has great BAT CONTROL, which makes him a good top of the order hitter.

I'm a proud "studs fag" since 6/20/2010... are you?

After reading your other stuff

I like it a lot more than this article. The strong side/ weak side stuff is great!

I don’t personally think the Royals article is really that great, just thought I’d share it here since it was Royals related.

Appreciate the compliments, thanks for checking out my junk.

No problem, you've got a great start!

You may have just rushed some stuff out to make a presentable website to publish. I’ll be following you in the future.
