In the Steinbrenner montage on SC last night

I noticed there was a clip of him in the stands at Royals Stadium – I presume during one of the LCS. Good for him for sitting with the proletariat, and not in a suite. I can imagine how Royals fans may have treated him.

    Steinbrenner

That was during Game 2 of the 1980 ALCS, just after Willie Randolph was thrown out at the plate on a relay from Wilson, Brett, and Porter. It was the top of the 8th inning, with the Royals leading 3-2. The ABC cameras caught him saying the word, “BULL****”. That was one of the greatest wins in Royals history.

Islanders a Step Close to Leaving

Islanders a Step Close to Leaving

Apparently, Wang’s vision of a mini-city smack in the middle of suburbia just isn’t selling. While Wang has long had the ok to remodel or replace his aging arena, he only seems interested in doing that as part of a bigger real estate play. If the two sides fail to find common ground, options for the Islanders could include a move into Brooklyn’s soon-to-be built Barclay’s Center with the NBA Nets, or a hooking up with Mets owner Fred Wilpon for a new arena in Queens next to Citi Field. Otherwise, a move out of town, most likely to the still-vacant Sprint Center in Kansas City, remains a possibility.

I'm not even in KC and I would love that

Especially if they were the Scouts again.

    Ugh

The new Nashville summer league baseball team is the Outlaws and it makes me want to punch someone. Definitely on the list of my least favorite team nicknames for some reason.

Is KC really a hockey town?

In the years that I lived there I don’t remember anyone being interested in the sport.

Mostly because we don't have a team

The minor league Blades were pretty popular at their peak, sometimes selling out Kemper Arena.

Probably depends on how committed the ownership is to putting out a competitive product – much like any market.

You really think enough people will support a hockey team?

The Blades didn’t last. I guess if there’s a team in Nashville, there’s no reason not to have one in Kansas City, but I don’t know anyone who cares about hockey.

    The Blades didn't last

Because the entire IHL went belly up, not because of a lack of support.

And they love this team in Nashville

There may be a relatively small contingent, but they’re very passionate about the Preds.

The Missouri Mavericks had a really successful 1st season here last year

Granted their stadium is only like 3-5,000 capacity, but they sold out many games and have a pretty rabid fan base (including me!). They are independent league hockey.

    Truth is

the KC Scouts name is probably owned by the NJ Devils. I doubt they make any money off of it, but it’s likely better for a new KC team to just take a new name rather than try to negotiate the rights away from the old team.

I think the Kansas City Islanders would be awesome

for the same reasons that the Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz, and Memphis Grizzlies are still awesome.

    I'm with you there

(although “Grizzlies” fits just fine anywhere, because it denotes strength and ferocity, like Tigers and Lions, neither of which ever lived wild in Detroit).

The only thing that might be better

is the Kansas City Whalers. The Kansas City Avalanche would be funny, too.

    Is a Royals cap like

Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak during the All-Star Game?

I’m glad the ASG is going to be in Kansas City in two years. Maybe the manager (whoever it is) will take a look around, hear people chanting for the KC representative to get in the game, and the light bulb will go on that maybe someone in the audience would enjoy seeing a Royal somewhere on the diamond. Heaven knows that shouting to my computer didn’t do the trick.

Sure, but when was the last time that happened?

2003, I think. Sweeney and Mac the 9th? And only one of them got in the game, IIRC.

    He got confused last year

Went after Yuni thinking he was Yunel.

Seems like the flawed "DDJ will net the Royals two 1st-Round draft picks as a Type-A"

won’t disappear. Here people seemed to have grasped that it’s a possibility but not a sure thing. At some other sites, not so much.

Would you like to follow me on Twitter, Facebook, or my blog...well you can't.

    DDJ to Red Sox

Read something interesting earlier about the prospects we might get from the Sox. Forgot where I read it and don’t have access to history. So this post is completely pointless. Please disregard.

    Why are they so determined

To use him as a reliever? What a waste of a pick.

It's because they know that KC is poised to make a run

and they’re panicking. After all, the Royals are only eight eleven good days away from first place.
