An Actual Mention Of Bloomquist's Lack of Hustle Last Night
The context is Posada's weird night behind the plate, but props to David Brown for also calling out the untouchable St. Willie.
Nobody said anything (that I heard) about Bloomquist not hustling during the game — possibly because they were in shock over Posada's irresponsible throws. Vasgergian did mention Bloomquist's lack of hustle after the game, but excused it for some reason.

Two Cases of Lack of Hustle
That’s what Bloomquist (right) is known for: Hustling his way onto rosters. Also, for his ability to play, kind of, any position. It sure ain’t for his on-base percentage.
Earlier in the game the Royals were shorted a run when Wilson Betemit(notes) was tagged out at second before
Jose Guillen(notes) crossed the plate. Michael Kay on YES
and Matt Vasgersian on the MLB Network alluded to Guillen not busting it 100 percen
So this is what a veteran club does after they are eliminated from the postseason. They quit doing the little things. They don’t hustle. They try to play for thier stats. They accept losing.

Good thing Bloomquist is white otherwise he might be in some trouble!

I actually watched the game last night, and I'm not sure what the lack of Bloomy hustle is referring to.
Bloomy just has terrible range in the OF, he’s a slight step above Jose Guillen.
What I did notice is just how horribly inept Scott Podsednik is in the outfield.
Yeah, I really should have read the article first.
I thought your italicized quote above was the Bloomquist bit from the article.
He's excused because he's white
Does anybody really doubt that?
It’s not racism as such, just lazy stereotypes.
Lazy racism?
It wasn’t a passed ball or wild pitch, the catcher will more than likely make the throw to get you out. It’s one of those plays where half the time the guy just walks back to the dugout.
Had it been BJ Upton doing that, maybe Longoria yells at him again. I don’t know.
That's exactly it. When a white player does it, it usually goes unnoticed/unpunished.
When a black player does it, he is criticized more often than the white player and seen as lazy and as someone that doesn’t hustle as much.

I think it also, maybe moreso, involves the guys preexisting rep
last year in the playoffs Nick Punto and the Twins made a number of fundamental mistakes… yet it didnt cause WW3. Wilie is supposedly always hustling, except when he’s not…
I also think depends a great deal on the particular situation
As far as the Upton/Longoria affair goes, when you’re an OF and a ball is hit in your area, pretty much every single person in the stadium is going to focus their attention on you. Even if there are any runners, they are almost secondary to watching the OF chasing after the ball. So, if you dog it on a play like that, you can expect to be called out because you were in the brightest spotlight.

Willie Was Black
To me for years until I got access to FSN.
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.
